Aye - might well be extra cooling - but it the 2wd one is efficient though, then it's just wasted space and excess WEIGHT!

2wd seems easier to fit IMHO it does go snuggly at the front above a front mounted rad, but holes are needed in the front of the bonnet to get airflow accross the core.

I have the rs turbo intercooler little baby it is but it seems like it just causes more lag once i've got all the pipes on for the power i'm running and when i get my next turbo going i want more cooling if i'm going to be running 180bhp and i don't think that intercooler be enough but fits lovely on top the clutch housing need to cut a bit of your inter wing away to get the pipe on but other than that like a glove

I know you say it may be too big dave, but didnt JF find an increase year to year with only the intercooler and rad change?

I know a fair bit will have been gained by running cooling but even little helps *happy*

just a thought, be nice to do back to back tests. something very easily done i'd guess.

i like things to be over engineered, if i was planning to run any sort of boost over stock, i would probably start with the 2wd cossie and be safe that my charge temp was cool :) (just my opinion)
Josh, if you have a look on the forum pics there are a few peeps using the cossie coolers with rads mounted at the front as i have said. Frog is one of many, there are some good shots to give you an idea. IMHO if you have the cossie one already i would use it rather than the rs one, at least you have scope for more boost at later date without having to upgrade coolers too.

there is always this buz word about "Weight" not everyone 1/4 miles their mini, and although yes weight is best kept low for power / weight ratios to be good. for the few of us , me included we just use our minis for road and the odd track day weight really is not super crucial i would choose the efficiency over weight. granted you are correct as usual that unless u r running serious boost, the 2wd one will be more than adequate (as long as you get good airflow over core) *wink*

IMO the 2wd Cosworth item is great. It is "Fittable" is round nose Minis and a breeze to fit it in a clubman, as Bud666 will tell you.

With the Frog at Peter Baldwin's we could feel the "hot end" and the "cold end" of the cooler during runs, the temp difference was ver big.

Another impotant fact with 2nd hand coolers is that they are always coated inside with oil and debrise.

it is well worth chucking some parafin/petrol or something similar to "SLOOSH" it out, you will be suprised how much cack comes out.

Do this a couple of times and finnish of with very hot soapy(washing up liquid) water.

This must help with it's cooling performance.

JF.

ok, VERY stupid question coming up.

Would colour make a difference to cooling. A lot of coolers seem to be painted black, but the pace ones are still in self colour silver.

I'd have thought black would absorb heat so wouldn't work as well.

Sorry if this is a "it's lighter with the seats down" comment.

Black also dissapates heat better.... Rocker covers on proper cars are always black crackle finish. dark colour + bigger surface= good.

as far as iam aware as long as its aluminium it can ! my paintball marker has bits "tigged" and the anno has covered nicely !

iam presuming you want to get it annoed black.....?

be aware that part of the process of annoing involves the item being bathed in acid ! just in cse you have thin sections of metal.
