rick.

ps Youve got to watch for cheap calipers as they flex under pressure so give a horible spongy feel and ive been told (nothing to back it up with) that the actuall quality of the disc plays a big part in stopping power.

Apologies for the thread jack, but I've got a similar problem.

The 998 Turbo runs 7.5" Cooper S non-vented discs, Cooper S calipers and standard EBC pads. These fit under 10" rims. I took the servo out a while ago.

Every time I need to stop quick, I have a near fatal experience :( As I am a boost addict and regularly drive it too fast, then I need to do something about it.

On Saturday, the pedal felt an inch lower than usual, so I feel that I need to get this sorted once and for all.

I'm inclined to get some alloy 4 pots, but should I try alternative pads first?

Should I try these Kevlar jobbies, Mintex 1144, carbon metallic....... or can anyone suggest anything else?

Paul , a stupid one but are the rear shoes adjusted up ok?

Have you boiled the brake fluid? , when was it last changed

And lastly what condition are the flexi hoses in, are they old, even if in good condition an sure the rubber will weaken over time

Rear shoes were adjusted in September 2009.

Fluid was new in 2008 when I changed the front calipers. Previous to that it was all new in 2006/7. I doubt that I've boiled it as I've never "raced" the car.

The reason for the pedal dropping is a lack of fluid in the reservoir. I check it on saturday and it was down around the minimum *blush*

The front flexis are new but the rear are the original.

The brakes seem to be working OK, but just don't stop quick enough.

I think the carbon metalics etc are good but they need to be warmed up to work as with any race pad, not sure how they'd work on the road.

I like the "bang" from the exhaust as it hits the limiter *happy*

You should change your brake fluid every year as a rule to keep the water content absorbed into the system to a minimum.

Try new pads, I swaped to green stuff pads for the road and they made a world of difference.

As you all know, one of the causes of the cyndrome we term brake fade is the boiling off of the water that has been absorbed into the brake fluid to the point where bubbles are formed in the brake fluid and it is the attempted compression of these gas pockets which absorbes much of the braking force rather than it all being transmitted through to the pads.
