You never know Ben, the louder pump noise could be a sign that it's now operating properly as mine has been as loud as you describe since mid 2008 !

Tx me if you wanna pop over for the pump, I'll take you for a spin in the van.

Driving to Brooklands with Six-Ex Mini's on Sunday.

Richard.

Minivanless, but reluctantly happy living with the decision. There'll be another one day.

right heres the update so far :)
checked my valve clreances and aside form a litle tweak they were fine..on the ups side though the spark plugs all looked good, with only the 2 nearest the flywheel lookin a tiny bit rich.
after poking around near the fuel tank to see if there was an inline filter i noticed there was NO earth wire to the fuel pump..which was umm nice to see , so rectified that.
ive just been out and tested the actuator by pulling he hose fro mthe actuator off the bleed valve and bodging the pump onto the pipe and the actuator rod literally starst to move as i push the pump a tiny bit , then if i push o nthe pump a decent amoutn more and the rod fully extends without the gauge so much as even twitching..i took the pump off put my finger over the end and pumped it and it moved straight away so i know the gauge is working.

not really sure what this means ? if the actuator is operating under extremely low pressure or the pump is just gash but id have thought even with the connection not being compeltley air tight itd have atleast registered some kind of pressure

just to add i just went out and did the test again as i found an old wheel valve..and the rod still moved pretty much as soon as i pushed the pump but if ipump the footpump a few times to try and get some pressure reading on the gauge i can JUSt about get it to read approx 5psi with the rod being fully extended, and the rod starts going back in at about umm 3psi ish...but as i say seems to not need the 5psi reading for it to be fully extended.

i hope this makes any kind of sense

so everything sounds about right with the actuator then? at least thats one more thing i can tick off the list ...just got my 8mm t-peice in the post, thansk ebay..so will be checking fuel pressure is rasing properly as soon as i grab a new peice of fuel pipe fro mthe local parts supplier :)

id put a stronger one in there for some stability ,something like a 7 psi one ?

can you change the diaphrams on a standard actuator or will i need to uprate it for say an avobar item ? i guess it wouldnt hurt either way, to cope with future mods

i think there are some stock t3 ones that are higher ...maybe save some money getting one 2nd hand ?

Ben - good news about the actuator, sounds like a stock jobbie. And I agree with Robert, a higher poundage item makes sense but don't write yours off just yet.

I used to run a Cossie actuator on the van until I got the boost controller sorted, then took it off and sold it unfortunately.

If I recall, the Garrett part number for the 9 psi actuator I had was 430099-18. In most of the cases with Garrett actuators, if you half the last figure in the part number, it'll give you the operating pressure of the actuator, so a '-18' is a 9 lb job and a '-24' is a 12 lb job etc..

The Garrett website is pretty good for describing the actuators available for a T3 but they're not cheap new. Most are available second hand these days, particularly from lots of Ford Forums where the Cossie and RST boys uprate their actuators and flog the standard ones.

Good luck with the rest of the checklist Ben.

Richard.
