i agree with that tom, my old mini was a 998 and i spent my money doing the suspension, it taught me how to control the car in the corners and it was always at a controllable pace, now i have a 1.3 and i'm glad for my experience in the 998, its taught me better control
i will also add that as soon as i passed my test within about a week i was raggin my car everywere and i rekon if i had a turbo or a large bore mini or a powerful car i would have had an accident.
just take it easy and build it up slowly, two years is no time, i've nearly been driving two years and it feels like a lot less than that

i will also add that although my 998 was underpowered it was a fantastic car, i had alot of fun driving it round the countryside with my mates at 1 in the morning, and it did actually feel fast to me for a while

thanks for the advice tom and dan, you's both make good points and i might even start looking in the trading post for a "make do" 1100 engine, even though i cant afford it. And for evolution, the only reason why im "moaning" is because im 15 and already spent $8000 on the car, thats a lot of money at my age, to find out that even once i'v finished the car i cant drive it doesnt so much piss me off because of the power but because i'v invested so much money into the conversion, if i had of known the law was coming in a year ago i could of spent that money in a lot more usefull way, appreciate eveyones input, ill ceep an eye out for a cheep runable engine and play it by ear

well amte i passed my test at 19 as cud not afford the lessons as had more pressing isues to worry about like where to live. when i finally did pass my test i had to wait over a year as the car was not in roadworthy condition. i only have a 998cc at the mo and tbh its great 4 what i use it for to and from work and to college. ok so its not the fastest car in the world but it feels really fast. if i was u i wudnt jump straight into a turbo as u will just crash it and all that money u spent will go down the drain mate. get used to the power and how well your car can handle first. that is what i am doing then with any luck next year i shall b stepping up into the turbo league.

speed is the best rush i have ever had!!!

I think this has been done to death, but every lad aged 16thru 21 who is a bit of a petrolhead thinks he's a good, thru to excellent driver.

Usually the deciding factor in this selection process is becuause he has the confidence to undertake slower cars, accelerate quickly from lights, go round corners at high speeds, brake at the last minute, etc.
The ability to do all this is less in a lower powered car. If I had a R33 at the age of 17, I guarantee i wouldn't be here today, or maybe I'd be riding a wheelchair rather than a mini.
I think you're getting clouded with the whole mess and forgetting the freedom being able to drive gets you... This is the important thing. I'd have loved to have had a smart looking mini at the age of even 20, let alone 16! In todays 'tarts handbag' world of cars where bodykits rule more than cubic inches, you'll be driving somthing that'll be pulling hoars all day long...

Wrap the turbo bits in greaseproof paper. Buy a stock, reliable 1275, and spend the rest of your dollars on beer and birds... When the time is right, fit the turbo and spend your money on the turbo, and a little less on beer and birds. Simple!

Here is another tip should you choose my reccomended option:

I'm sure there are lots on here who will back me up on that!

lol, ill ceep that in mind!
Yea, i am realy lucky to be able to do up a nice car, i no a lot of people arn't. I told my parents what every one on here has said so the end'd up buying my grnadfathers VK commodore, its a nice car, great condition due 2 d fact it woz driven by a grandfather 4 soo long, and it only has a 202 engine in it, pritty slugish but reliable. My parents said that because they have baught me a form of transport they only wont me driving the mini when im on club trips to show's ect or when either my mum or dad are in the car. So pritty much they pay for a form of transport as long as i drive the mini under their permission........ i think thats great because even if i did only put a standard 1275 engine in my mini while i learnt to drive, there's still the chance ill prang n scratch my brand new $5000 paint job, this way if i prang i only have to worry about wot i run into.... :)

Thanks again for the advice every one, it work'd out pritty sweet.
