Ha Ha, Miss S *happy*

I think that she is holding a second marigold.

We have just been out for a test drive with the other head and all is well, except for a slight blow on the exhaust and maybe a need for a tune-up. We will be fitting the wideband sometime to check the fueling.

Anyway, I've tested the seat with a valve seat cutter and it looks like Rod's theory about the seat tipping is correct:

Thanks for the clue, Rod.

I had an 8v BMW head with a similar problem. Valve and guide were straight. It only took 0.006" to cut it out. Funny thing was that the valve shim was 0.005" thicker than the others with the correct valve clearance, but feck all compression

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Did you risk re-using it?

I reckon that the seat will not fall out, it just was not seated properly and is now in it's correct position after some good hammering from the valve.

Axel paid to have the head worked done at Morspeed with his paper round money a few years ago now. I would hate to see that wasted.

What do you think - bin it or just recut the seat and put it back on?

Yeh, its on the engine, in the car and running. Funny thing was that it came of a running engine (all be it badly), and the valve shims all went back where they came from when it was built back up, The clearances were all within tollerence, or there abouts, certainly not 0.005" out.

I would re cut it, its only going to be about 0.005"

However, make sure that the valve is indeed straight, as I had a ever so slightly bent valve on the 1400 which had worn the seat, resulting in perfect seal most of the time, but piss poor seal other times. I think it was bent by something like 0.002" only just visable with the naked eye. Still got the valve somewhere as it was a Bill Richards 35mm Special *hehe!*

Well, just got back from trying to get it going after Axel broke down.

It had stopped at the top of an off ramp on the A14. He managed to get it onto the middle of the roundabout and rang me.

Looks like the fuel pump is knackered. It was a new one fitted at the end of last year *angry*

I could only get it to run by pouring petrol into the carb. It would run OK for a little while and then would just die.

He's got another hour or so to wait until the RAC bring him home.

I wonder if the fuel pump was the initial cause of the problem?

Turned out to be crap in the float valve.

The nice man from the RAC fixed it at the side of the road and Axel drove it home.
