Dont vote for one party because it is what you have always done, but, dont vote for another party just for a change. Vote for your self, not others.

I cannot see how voting for a party just because they have the majority, helps anything. That is probibly why they have the majority.

Vote for how it best suits yourself and your family, not because its how you have normally voted

Nothing ever stays the same in life, your points of view change as you live, and as such, things need to change to keep up with that

Calling anyone who is a car enthusiast that votes Lib Dem, a plank, disrespects the views of those, and, as such, how can you respect the view of that person.

Actually the LibDem policy is very good in my opinion.

I think that road pricing is great. Driving in the UK used to be great, but these days it is just a matter of avoiding traffic jams.

A few weeks ago I drove to the south of France to buy a bottle of wine or two. Did 1700 miles, about 1200 of that in France on toll roads. Did 400 miles each day, for the first two days, had a rest and then came home doing around 200 miles a day stopping at a different place each night. Throughout the trip we used the toll roads wherever possible, as they are free of traffic.

Got back in the UK and it was slow traffic all the way home. M20, M25, M11,A14 nightmare of lorries drag racing all the way.

I would be quite happy to pay extra for toll roads in the UK. Going anywhere by car, long distance would then be stress free.

Rant over.

Yeah, but france has twice the surface area of the uk and a similar population, se even if the Motorways were free, they'd still be only 1/2 as full!

I found the toll roads in France very nice to drive on, but felt the tolls where over priced.

I commute about 75 miles every day, 50 of that on the M1. Tolls would make it thoroughly impractical for me to drive to work. So use public transport I here you cry - it takes twice as long and costs nearly twice as much. If they could fix that then it might be practical, but until then I'll stick to my oil burner.

We only spent about £100 on tolls.

We are all going to face a situation soon where we are going to find it difficult to justify travelling such long distances to work because of the cost of the fuel. All the emerging economies around the world are going to be competeing with the UK to buy what oil is available, dwindling stocks or not.

I think that we will all be looking for jobs nearer home than alternative modes of transport. Easy for me as I'm only 2 metres from home *happy*

I guess life's a little different when you are younger, houses etc all cost a lot more these days so you have to go where the work is that pays the most. In my case that's Leeds. I'd love to change jobs and do something totally different that is local, but I've saddled myself with a mortgage and a car habbit now.

Well I've been and voted but I can't say who for, as it's a secret ballot....

...apart from the fact the ballot paper is serial numbered and cross referenced to your number on the electoral roll which they double check and tick off before giving you the serialised paper :)

To be fair that doesn't sound too bad and could be fairer to those of us that live in 'rural' areas. I'd like to see how they balance it out to make it revenue - neutral. Vehicle excise duty and fuel tax has always been a cash cow for any government.
I hate to imagine the cost to motorists to make all vehicles zero emission though...

Our planned expansion of public transport will provide much-needed alternatives to private cars, and cut carbon emissions. However, in many places there will always be a need for car travel, so we need to ensure that it is as environmentally friendly as possible.

We will:

• Work through the EU for a zero emissions target for all new cars by 2040 and extend targets to other vehicles.

• Undertake preparations for the introduction of a system of road pricing in a second parliament. Any such system would be revenue-neutral for motorists, with revenue from cars used to abolish Vehicle Excise Duty and reduce fuel duty, helping those in rural areas who have no alternatives to road travel. Some of the revenue from lorries would be used to fund further extensions of high speed rail through the UK Infrastructure Bank.

• Introduce a rural fuel discount scheme which would allow a reduced rate of fuel duty to be paid in remote rural areas, as is allowed under EU law.

One other thing is that the libs also seem to favor the eu as legislators, so kiss goodbye to us being able to modify our cars too. - A generalisation I know but I can't be arsed to trawl through their policy.

I'm not saying its a bad idea without reason.. It's not the "pricing" part that worries me. It's not toll booths they're going to introduce, but GPS tracking. No more speeding, no more privacy.

Sigh. cool though, vote for lib-dem because you think you can afford to drive more than the 'poor people' to clear up the roads, if you like.

It's quite impressive the way we can have an election in the UK and the only party that are guaranteed to get in to power are the ones that came third.

I reckon it only needs Cameron to do the Truffle Shuffle on national TV, and just for the humiliation, Cleg might agree to his terms.
