I would expect that the 'Active Users' bit is built up on queries based on current activite users, their current IP address etc. I would expect the IP address to user correlation to be based on the last user with that address when the query was executed.

So when you look it's you as you have just ran the query and when Sturgeo looks, he's just ran the querry.

Same sort of principle as the 'Users viewing this thread' bit near the bottom, it might show just me reading it, but if somebody accessed it after me it might show me aswell as them.

Now my brain hurts, so I'm going to the chippy. Sod my ever expanding wasteline...

You didn't leave enough time since B+B=S registered :)

I reckon it increments the number every time a new IP address comes on, ie a new user. It then gives the latest number when the user registers.

Wait and see.

I concede.

I still don't understand the missing 6000 or so members.

I just looked up member no. 8000:

http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.php?p=vu&i=8000

He doesn't appear in the members list *frown*

No, the members list is less than 3000, so there are 6000 missing like no. 8000.

Stephen Hawking - "The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge."

Member 8000 shows as zero posts although registered over 4 months - maybe the members list doesn't update until a post has been made ???

Just a thought.

For example, I am registered on a few forums where I have never posted but have registered on those particular forums because key functionality (like viewing photos or running searches) isn't available as a "guest".

EDIT - ignore what I said, there are users in the members list showing zero posts.........

There must be some way that the server defines a "user" or a "member".

Probably something to do with cookies or if the user comes back a second time and becomes a member.

Someone will no doubt let us know.

It's too hot now. One extreme to the other.

My next job is welding aluminium which is hot work on a cool day.

I see Rod was up with the sparrows this morning.

Maybe I should try that.

Because my Metro radiator doesn't fit (because the fan switch is in the wrong place) and I can't even get the expansion tank to fit.

Won't have the new bits until Monday or Tuesday.

And it is too hot - I only woke up early because it was too hot to sleep..... and thought I'd have one last look at the expansion tank before asking for help.... now it's too hot to do anything.

Ditto *happy*

I had to put some overalls on to weld in some new studs on some door hinges for Sturgeo's flame, but I did manage to free off the handbrake quandrants in shorts and sandles *happy*

Actually got a lot done this weekend despite the heat.
