they are basically the same cam, both produce the goods. you could also try and avonbar phase 2

Looking at the numbers Robert has posted I reckon that 266 would make a great turbo cam. But what do I know?

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Either one should produce good results.

I would go with whichever one you can get the cheapest.

That's what I did. Although currently I think that the MG cam is better, but I only have a 998. It may not be the cam that is responsible, but the off boost performance is not as good as the engine I have runnig the MG cam. Although perfectly drivable it's not as nice as the MG.

In a larger bore engine I think this effect would be reduced.

I must say that our van isn't bad at all to drive off boost. MG cam. (I know this because the wastegate circlip went walkies and the actuator arm popped off)

This might be my noobish mind but dropping the compression ratio a touch by increasing chamber volume, fitting a decent intercooler and bringing the boost up a touch would be a similar price to a new cam kit and would get you a bigger power increase. As long as the engine/gearbox really is in good shape of course!

To be honest mate ive got the standard 1275 turbo engine with big bore exhaust, dumpvalve, and air intake i have only upped the boost a couple of psi and its enough to see off a 2,0 golf gti.

Its taken me since xmas to get this standard engine to run well in the mini shell, so expect it not to go to plan the first time, ive focussed on buying up big cooling systems from ebay eg oil coolers, intercoolers and decent radiator and external fan.

You say you have the engine in peices does it not already have a head that you can port if not spend the time to look for the original casting, otherwise your talking alot of head work just to get it to standard spec!
oh and dont forget brakes, i stupidly thought the sure stop kit would stop it!

As you have got it in bits, you are right to think about a cam now. Normally aspirated MG Metro or Avonbar Phase 2 are both a good choice.

i would say the head is in most cases more impotant than the cam. for a turbo a wild cam is useless, avonbar ph2 is a good cam and is what i am using in my build. i would put the money in the head tho. and make some allowances for a modified plenum and intercooler if you want to run more than standard boost *wink*
