Alright you guys, do you want to get a room or what? I think we've esstablished the facts and who's got a book/tinternet access/etc in front of them On 09/02/2005 09:55:51 1275_dan said:
ive fitted a bleed valve and have the boost running just under 4 on my guage which reads in KM/CM'2, ive worked out that that 7psi is 4.9 on this guage, think you have to devide the boost you wanna run at by 0.070 (please correct me if im wrong) is it safe to run it at 7psi and will there be alot of difference in power? ps. its a standard turbo 1275 A few considerations: The metro turbo was designed for 4-star fuel: 97RON as i recall. You need to use equivavlent or better. Are you confident your head has never been skimmed? Doing so will raise the CR to a point that the '7psi is ok' scenario is not the case. Have you checked your ignition timing and set it to the appropriate figure with the advance disconnected (someone here will say what it is - I forget)? Is the mixture something like right, and the correct needle and spring fitted in the dashpot, and the correct oil level? etc, etc... It's all very well assuming that all the above is ok, but you know what they say about assumption being the mother of all %*@# ups... I'll say you will be almost definately be safe at just 5psi if you've checked the carb and timing. Anything more than that, and i personally would take it to a respected rolling road and get the boost upped on the rollers. You may find you can crank it all the way up to 10psi on the standard advance. Great - but i'm not about to tell anyone to do this. Edited by turbodave16v on 10th Feb, 2005. While on the sidebar of ignition does anyone know how much advance the vacuum advance provides at idle or 1500 RPM's? I set my timing with it disconnected, and then re-connect it and the timing doesn't move. I have checked that the advance holds vacuum, and it does. So I checked the line, and the port in the carb and all is clear and not leaky. I was just wondering if anyone knows how much advance I should be looking for.

Thanks, actually I didn't know that. maybe someting in the distributor is screwed up. I know the advance curve in this works and is correct, but I have always been suspect of the vacuum advance. I would think it could advance at idle, and help to smooth out the idle a little bit, but it doesn't. I have a spare new Turbo distributor that I think I may try. I was having a problem with the engine cutting out under boost at times anyway so maybe this will solve both problems.

The turbo has a higher advance can than the nat-asp dizzy, you definately should notice a difference. Something must be stuck? On 17th Nov, 2014 Tom Fenton said:
