OK so a little more info, at the moment she has a 2001 Fiesta 1.25 Ghia, so not mega old, plenty of gadgets, but not that quick.

So whatever replaces it really needs to be newer so as not to be a "step back".

Focus st... would have thought you could get 06 model for that money.

Or maybe a clio sport 172.

She'll use it for going to work, that is about it, really thinking of something a bit special for us both to use.

Honda Integra or a Civic Type R.

What about a Nissan 350Z. Tight on price that one though.

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.
VEMS + 12 PSI + Liquid Intercooler = Small Bore FUN!

Guys, thanks for all the thoughts, as I thought you would, you've both suggested things I wouldn't have thought of, and also prompted me to look at things I thought would be over budget- that you can get a Boxster for less than £5k was a suprise to me.
We'll have to mooch over the suggestions.

Honda Civic - our lass' has been bullet proof for 3 years. Should be plenty in your bracket and the exec model has leather and all the toys. Don't get the 1.6 though as it's just not quick enough.

We have the 1.4 TCDI on 56 but they do a 1.6 TCDI Festa also with aircon and also £35 per year road tax with 60mpg! Which should be a little more spritely at 90bhp instead of the 70 which ours is!

Most of the jap stuff is a bit "rude" for her taste, I've an A4 TDi so we don't really need another diesel mobile, hence wanting something nice/special.

I think after she drives a Boxster, she'll not want much else to be honest Tom. They drive amazingly, are practically bullet proof, and although they're not blindingly quick, they're fun enough to be entertaining.

Plus, its a Porsche!

Maybe not new enough or special enough but I think a lot has to be said for the Focus ST170. Quick-ish understated and pretty bullet proof.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

If I ever lose my company car it will be something that I will look at.

Somewhere around Swindon

s1 elise while shes got no sprogs and young enough to get away with driving it
If she liked her fiesta the Fiesta ST seems a good reliable car and a bit special 5k buys an 06 plate

Dare i say a Bini cooper s? for some reason we dont pick them up like the standard cars they seem more reliable for some reason or better built

other than that i would look at the S3 (you can get 80k ones for as little as 3.5-4k)

other than that for a slightly "special" car your looking at a golf the Jap stuff or a shitty vauxhall i think
