In which case the selector rod isn't rotating the internal selector through the three gates, it's just floating at the 3/4 gate.

Get underneath - engine NOT running - and have someone else select the gears and see if the bottom rod is actually rotating (as well as moving backwards and forwards) and then see if the short bit of the shaft going into the gearbox also rotates at the same time (possible damaged roll pin ???)

Depends which bit is not rotating.....

If its the short bit into the gearbox not, and the long one is, then roll pin at the gearbox end.

If the complete long rod isn't rotating, there is something very wrong inside the gearchange "remote" housing.

It may be still assembled wrong as Tom said but there is also a roll pin inside it.

Take the bottom cover off and see what is moving or not....

Cool. I've never seen anybody fit an engine using levitation.

Is the long rod rotating as well as moving ????????

If it's not rotating then the problem is in the selector housing.

If the long one doesn't rotate when the stick is moved side to side, take the bottom plate off and look - believe me, it will then be obvious how it works.

Andy - didn't you see Yoda and Luke lift an X-wing out of a swamp just with the power of the Force ???

I've seen it in the cinema, on the TV and on DVD so it must be possible :)
