There weren't any supercharged cars there to run??

I did however read the feature on it so I'm not disputing there were some bloody quick cars there. But my point is, your slagging off supercharged Minis in favour of turbocharged ones when there are plenty of quick supercharged ones beating turbo charged ones. Obviously if you want alot of power ie track car then go turbo but I prefer acceleration and mine will more than likely not see a track.

The problem is that superchargers hold a mystique that can't be shaken. The allure is the romance is the old Bentley Blowers, spitfires and huge powered drag cars. On the other hand the turbo has a reputation for laggy, overheating, exploding, unreliable engines. The truth these days is almost the opposite, but giving people the facts still doesn't change their mind. Don't get me wrong though the supercharger has its place, but I have yet to see one that would not be improved by fitting a turbo (purely from a power/efficiency/reliability point of view).

I'm not slaging of superchargers, I have one and am going to fit it. I'm just saying turbos are better. End of.

I quite like the lag followed by a big kick in the back from our van.

I'm not saying you specifically Andy. But then it's all down to personal opinion you prefer turbo I prefer supercharged. But just because somebody doesn't like superchargers doesn't mean that they are shit/slow/pointless/etc. I could slag off turbos because they're not my preference but I don't because I don't care if people use them. It's like being in a school playground with the whole 'mine is better than yours so yours is rubbish'

I never said I prefer turbo...

I am fortunate that I have acces to both. I may not like the supercharger once it's installed and the car is on the road, but that's a decision I'll make based on my own experience.

Jo i am with Tom and the others, supercharging the A series is just not as good as turboing it and in many case's much harder work, not sure what you expect when you come on to a site called Turbominis (the clues in the name) and sprut off about how bloody brilliant superchargers are when most people know different

Most people on here will welcome any mini and give good honest but blunt advice, IMO if you come to this site and you have a supercharger that you feel is the dogs then you put up or shut up or use a different site, you forget most people on here have been round the block more than a few times when it comes to charging an A series.

Last but not least welcome starmag no2

Like I said before, Supercharging is my personal preference and it's what I am doing. Therefore no amount of people slating them will change my mind. I'd be interested if you could point out where I said how brilliant superchargers are because some of you seem to be putting words in my mouth to fuel whatever point or argument your trying to prove. The whole reason I am here and not tmf or 16v instead is because turbo is forced induction along with supercharging, funnily enough. And like I've pointed out before, just because most of you think superchargers are slow/poor to set up/etc doesn't mean nobody can get it to work, well.

Fair point. However that wasn't the "last" rr session that was the 2009 one. And yep rubicons pickup didn't do very well especially with the slipping clutch.

standard mg turbo bottom end with a wanky T2 and slipping clutch,
not to bad imo.......

oh and it was burning more oil than petrol...*tongue*

These new modern turbos with their quick spool up time, would make the competition harder.

oops my bad! i will have to think of a new name :$

and what have i started lol

anyways i decided to go from a SC to a turbo becuase of costs, my local mini specialist were making me up some manifolds for about a 1/3 of the price from vmax/jonspeed and ones that would actually flow well too.

the inlet manifolds which go to the charger outlet aren't the best as the charger outlet is huge and there is a tiny hole on the manifold! i can see this as being very ineffiecient and no wonder they get so hot and cause fueling problems and it's the same with the charger inlet.
we were also going to mount the carb to sit right next to the charger and run a pipe and filter down to the front of the engine, similar to the 'torue ram' in vizards bible to sort out the fueling issues.

I liked the idea of having no lag but a turbo unit just seems so much more tuneble and can't beat the sound of a dumpvalve 8-)

thanks for the warm welcome everyone
