0.005" thrust is fine

I don't agree.. This is too much. If however going this loose, the bearings should be ground flat. If installing brand new ones this loos, they'll open up at least one thou after the first 18 revolutions. The brand new ones are far from flat.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

if it was the first drive of the motor (ie the 2 meters before this happened), did it have oil pressure when you pressed the clutch in? if not i guess there was no lubrication on the thrusts, hence this mess when the clutch was pressed?

What has oil pressure got to do with failed thrusts?

My only possible thought could be that of the fact oil centrifuging from the centre main will help lubricate the thrusts as it escapes.

oil is pushed under pressure across the thrust bearing at the grooves, as they allow the oil to drain from the center main bearing, oil is drawn into the thrust, lubricating it. if the pressure from the clutch overcomes the oil film, the thrusts run pretty much dry, or, if the thrusts are installed the wrong way round, no oil gets to thrust and the same happens, but this time steel on steel.

It is normal for a fresh build engine, for the idle speed to drop whith the first few clutch operations while the thrusts bed in and find their seat.

This was what i was hoping for when i firts tried the cluth but no*frown*

The engine had oilpressure, light went out. It had also run before for some time so a lack off oil should not be the problem.

But what endfloat i should aim for next time?

there is nothing wrong with a A-series that a turbo can't fix.

Were back.

I pulled the engine apart to get things right. And to get some modifications one.

The crank is grinded flat but now i need oversized thrusts.

Í think i need these one's but could you check, or give a other adres to get thicker thrusts.

This is what i found at minispares
1300 CRANK THRUST WASHERS +030

The VPW41-030

Sorry, i can't get the direct link working

Those are the ones you need. And then you need to measure how much to skim them.
