removing the floor and replacing it cant be that substancial.

I know this is an old topic but I have some more information on it. I was talking to my local MOT guy in notts about changing my bootfloor to a carbon fibre one with him. He said it was a tough one but if it was done well he would pass it. Anyway he had the area VOSA rep coming into his place and told me he would ask him what the VOSA position is on it.
Basically it is an MOT failure as when the car was designed and crash tested etc it was with a metal bootfloor. Essentially you are changing the design of the car with a material that has never been tested in such a way.
There you have it the official VOSA point of view but probably it will still vary from one testing station to the next, but if the tester rings VOSA to check that is the answer they will get.
Hope this helps
Sam

Having taken a back end shunt in a mini a few years back (shut up!), I would never cut out the boot floor.

crash testing, hahahaha. not the kind of thing they did in the 1950s.

the MOT is not a test of a cars crash worthyness, it'sd a test of its roadworthyness. How do they know that removing the floor would make it worse? they don't so they can't fail it.

good point wil you could weld in an inch thick titanium floor if you like, just because it hasnt been tested doesnt mean it would fail..

Lots of the MOT is down to the discretion of the tester ie using there experience
but the MOT guide is pretty specific about most things but as I only do bikes I can only guess about the boot thing.
My view is that the standard subframe will be strong enough to protect the rear if the mountings are all ok.
It must be better than a bike and I feel safe enough on mine.

Was that just a drunken rabel or what?

As it happens, I only originally cut my boot out because the regs said that I couldn't have a fuel tank in an enclosed space without having drainage from around the filler neck. Cutting the boot floor out ment that the tank was no longer in an enclosed space.
