Id try changing the points and condenser. Can cause bogging when under load. Thats if your still using points.
Possible fuel blockage on feed or return?

So this has just started again after the engine has been out and had a new loom fitted, it was turning over fine for ages then just started happening. Last time I took it off the road to do some work and when I came to use it again it was turning over bang on as it should, took it off the road again this time, was turning over fine then just started again, it seems to turn over quickly for about half a second then its as if something is jamming, it just stops then starts again straight away and keeps doing this, it may well be my battery as it took a lot of hammer but I very much doubt it, ill stick it on charge tonight and see what happens, if not I'm going to try a new battery cable.

Non of this could be caused by the intercooler touching the ht leads? Thinking about it the first time it happened was the first time I used it after the intercooler was fitted? It has worked previously with the ic fitted though so I doubt that.

Battery is on charge will be giving it a go, if no luck the battery cable is next on my list.

sorry if this has come up already as i've not read the whole message but check the earth straps; i had a similar issue years ago and changed the engine to body strap and solved it

Rob it has been mentioned before and I have cleaned it up along with the engine and inner wing with a wire brush, but had no effect, I could try a new one though, mine currently goes to the inner wing but I've seen a few that go along the top engine steady, is this a better plate to put it or is there no difference?

i've always fitted one to the same fixings as the upper engine steady.

battery cable is another possible and I'm assuming the battery is fully charged?

you said the starter was new last year. was this new or re-conditioned? The guy that used to be in the unit next to us used to recondition alternators and starters but all he did was replace the worn bits and give it a paint.

You could also experience this sort of thing if the timing is out

I shall get a new earth strap then and fit it to the engine steady as above, also battery was fully charged and has always been a very good battery but I've put it on charge again last night to make sure.

A new main battery cable will be the next thing along with earth strap.

The starter was a brand spanker mate from minispares

Funny you should mention that rob, I got the car running but was running like shite so I assumed the toiming was 180 so had a play with the dizzy and that's when it happenend?

i'd look at the timing first then - as its been adjusted since last run. Even try getting someone to turn the key and move the dizzy around, you'll notice the difference in how the engine turns over

rob you genuis lol , rotated the dizzy a little, tried it and turned over a little better, rotated it a bit more, even better, kept rotatiing it a little and bingo, turns over fine, but i am now getting a little puff of what smells like fuel every now and again through the plenum, fuel pressure diaphram split?

its all down to the timing; get it set correctly and you should be fine

I checked the diaphram and it all looks ok, when I was at bogg brothers rolling road dave did say he thought my FPR didn't seem to be rising with boost, now there's what seems to be puffs of fuel vapour or something puiffing out of my plenum with the intercooler off, every half a second or so, I'm about to order a new FPR and I ordered a gauge too.
