Could this supposedly get round the issue of high revving engines wearing out main bearings. Or does it still not get round the fact that the centre main bearing would still not be of sufficient width to support the load placed upon it by 2 piston and rod assemblies?

Still, even if it doesn't sort this out the piston and rod assemblies look the dogs danglies.

thats the same arrow crank that MED are selling IMO

Yes sounds the same as the one MED supply, apparently not much extra cost involved in relation to the gain.

This one...? http://www.med-engineering.co.uk/product_d...32&vlang_id=575 Looks like a conventional A-Series crank with a fancy shape to me...

It's completely different to the MED one. The MED one just has larger counter balance webs

They certainly are real.
The extra main pins are floating just so the counterweight can be increased and to line the big ends with the bores better

I was joking...

The idea really is so simple, it's a wonder someone hasnt done it by now !!
Guess it's like all the good ideas though

Bearing (see what I did) in mind that the A-series cars at Goodwood have to be presented to the scrutineers with the heads removed to prevent the bore/stroke "cheating" that was rife a few years ago, how long before they have to be presented with the sump/gearbox removed ?

Metric is for people who can't do fractions.

That is porn! aand a clever idea, although it can't be the first a series crank of this type? i would like to see an engine in action using this crank, interesting to see how much of a difference it actually makes.

MED are going to be making the Russel design cranks apparently, so the price should come down accouring to GR.

Std Subaru cranks have been well proven to beyond 1000bhp and 9000rpm.
In fact, Ive never seen a broken Subaru crank.

I dont think many A-series have come close to that *wink*

That'd be interesting to see.

Even the guy running the fastest 4cyl manual Subaru in the world hasnt broken one.
And he uses some crazy boost and rpm's !

I'd say anyone who has broken one has caused the damage themselves. They just do not break.

I remember there being an issue with the Subaru gearboxes. Jim Bamber's Yumping Yarns on the back page of Car and Car Conversions made light of this fact depicting the parts store with racking only filled with Subaru gearboxes *hehe!*

Yep, a gearbox i could understand - that or the big ends self destructing, as that seems to be a pretty common problem too with the boxer engine - happens all the time.
I've never heard of a broken crank though, either....

From what I remember, and I may be wrong, the Subaru issue with the crank was oil starvation that caused the failure. It was not the crank just failing.

Yes, big end failure is quite common.

Usually down to crap maintenance and abusive owners.

but improvements to the oiling system have been made over the years too on later models.

Use the right oil, service and tune the car properly, and they are very reliable.

But Ive never seen or heard of a broken crank. Very off topic though, so sorry.

The swiftune crank looks great though.

Any indication of prices for a rotating assembly ?

Has anyone tried putting heavy metal into the webs of a normal billet crank?

As the do in F1

Late reply, I thought it was too good to be true that no one had even thought of this in more than 50 years.
