I use a Mini everyday for work 40mile round trip. I use the Scooby 1 day a week as well.

The Mini does 45mpg and cost pennies to repair. Brilliant. It's still got all the creature comforts that it came with though, some new seats and it'll be sorted.

It's a 998, but without the Turbo.

Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

keep the mini for events, weekend warrior events
stuff the ford as it will cost you MASS in FUEL ever week!

get a beat up old diesel as the work horse
MASS mpg and minimum maintenance!

use the savings your going to make to bring the mini up to scratch

REMEMBER! 50 + MPG and min maintenance
think about it!

go the way feebs is going to go *wink*

Or get something like a monty TD estate!
Great tow-car, mobile workshop, cheap insurance, cheap parts, cheap build quality unfortunately, but they are pretty nippy... all for under ?300 (or less!)

I have to agree Ben etc are spot on. I have an old diesel workhorse. I did the belts and a service when I got it, I have used it daily for 3 months and haven't touched it. Uses no oil, no water. Starts every time. I fill it up with diesel now and again, by the time it needs some more in I have genuinely forgotten the last time/place I had to fill it up.

Also you are getting rid of the mini as it is likely to (has) broken, do you honestly think an old RS turbo (because lets face it, the last of them were built in 1991) is going to be any better? Especially one that has been messed about with? At the end of the day it is still based on a 1597 CVH engine that was designed to produce 90bhp originally...........not much different when you think about it to the metro turbo vs mini engine debate. Also when equivalent parts go wrong the Ford will cost ??? to fix more than the mini, for e.g your mini clutch goes, ?60 for a new one, your 170bhp RS Turbo clutch goes, its ?200 for one to take the power and also get the flywheel refaced etc etc

Currently: Rover 820 16v Turbo as the daily runabout (!!), Poloa as a backup (my other half's) and the mini as the "holy sh!t this is quick" experience.
Not that 245hp from the Rover doesnt have you wondering why you didnt pack the spare trousers.

Its a grandad racer.....

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

id keep it at that until you can afford to fit an intercooler to be honest. 10psi max if its been well set up to keep you safe with some margin.

Intercoolers can be picked up cheaply though...
