I must admit I reached this point of "minis are shite" some 10 years or so ago, at the time I still had a Mini as my only road car, and by god was I pissed off with the seemingly constant maintenance it needed, no sooner had you sorted one thing then another cropped up, not to mention the full weekend that had to be set aside for checks/repairs/welding before even attempting an MOT test.....

I think that if they are off the road for a while, you forget why you like them.

I agree Paul, I'm so tempted to buy another cheep one just to thrash about in. I just can't justify spending the silly money they cost nowadays On 11th Feb, 2015 robert said:

Plus the fact that they are shit doesn't help! If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of. |

Rotted around the cat shield bolts by any chance..? Fortunately I caught those before they ever became a problem, back in 2006. This 'new' rot is all concentrated around the floor pan joints to the toe board and heel board, with a little on the door steps. Most of it found under the thick yellow seam sealer the factory apply around all these underbody joints. On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:

Did you R-clip the hinges Colin? Doing this to mine tonight :( Missed this. Not an R clip, but a 6mm quick pin. I drilled a small hole from the blind side of the hinge pin and knocked the pin out, then drilled all the way through the mounting from the 'pin' hole side with a 6mm drill and then the hinge bracket also. Did the same last night, the R clips i had were too big and they are really tight and would mess the paint up so i think i'll use a clevis or quick pin, thanks. |

Probably a silly question, but is there a way of making the boot quick release using something like quick pins and still secure enough that no ones going to nick all my fuel? |

If it is a standard fit boot lid with the seal fitted, i'd be surprised if you could pull the pins out with the lid shut since the seal generates pressure on the hinge pins and lock. Besides, I don't think the twats that try and nick your fuel wouldn't comprehend what that little ring was for, especially in the dark. On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:

Every where else I have looked at these this means the working length, the bit between the ring and the ball, but no, this guy means the overall length! BAC Too bloody short to be of any decent use! So, I have found these instead, and, might actually be a better option. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Brand-New-6mm-s-s-dr...=item53e00be71b On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:

OK. I might have been having a senior moment when I posted this thread. However, after visiting Fast Carl and having a look over a 2000 MPi shell, I now realise that while I might be repairing rot on my Mini, that rot is infact increadibly minor compared to what might have been!
