depends on wot postion your filter is sat in some times you end up with a little air pocket in the filter but all you have to do is turn it so the outlet points upwards and it will clear itself. But you should be looking tosee there are bubbles coming thro from the inlet pipe from the pump into the filter

or a pipe is loose or something.

take it the tank is fairly full?

fuel pressure gauge is the sure fire way to tell though. it will be plainly visible if you have enough pressure or not then.

i checked the fuel pressure and it was on 3.5, although the needle on the guage was jumping about a little and then it settled. that normal?

if its not the pump then it may be the regulator dya think? the regulator is the one that came with the engine so condition is unknown, was ok when she was first running though.

if it was me id start with the regulator and get a new diapragm ?8ish from FSE. or if you want to splash out (about ?40) a complete new one.

should be nice and steady.

as i said i leave the gauge under the wiper and have a drive to make sure it rises under boost and also when coming off boost goes back to 3.5psi. i diagnosed my fuel starvation and cutting out with this method as i could see the gauge going to zero at times!

"right,im thinking its the fuel pump,or regulator.

i have a spi fuel tank, i can here it pumping but its not a constant noise, its lumpy like on off kinda noise, does this indicate its shagged??

or is it the regulator??

stuart gurr thinks its fueling.

also is an mpi fuel pump the same as spi,can i put that in instead of an mpi??? "

I had that exact problem - Solved it with a new fuel regulator, and also run the fuel pump on a relay. Also what fuse are you using to the pump?

Get a new regulator, better than trusting a 18 year old one i thought anyway :) If you check your fuel pressure it will be doing the same, on/off on/off, i drove my car to avonpark and back like that not knowing it wasnt supposed to do that, didnt do it any damage luckily but i only took it steady at like 55mph on motorway there and back anyway, i would never try to get to 90mph when ironing out the problems of a new hybrid engine.

I think you will find the guage was jumping around a little due to a bit of air in the fuel hose. I had this happen and positioned the guage so it was lower than the regulator, gave the regulator a few taps and you can hear all the air escape, then got nice steady pressure readings after that.

allthough if you connected the guage with a t-piece so you can check it with engine running this should'nt be an issue!! I assume you took fuel hose off carb and put it directly on guage like i did?

so shall i t piece it on and take it for a drive, what should i be looking out for?

obviously its gota rise when it comes on boost, but im doubting it will tell me anyhting as its fine until you get to 90mph.

it probably will tell you that its loosing some pressure. its worth a shot anyway since its free *smiley*

wouldnt get up to 90 though!!! just a quick blast through the gears should do it. might not cause it to misfire but maybe start to see the signs of low fuel pressure on the gauge, takes a while for the float chamber to use up whats in there.

it doesnt missfire, just splurts abit and vibrates through the pedal.

if the pump was shagged wouldnt it be noticeable all the time and not just at 90mph?

highest fuel drain will be in top with your foot down. mine used to be fine hard in 1st, then 2nd and then cut out about 5k hard in 3rd. luckily i managed to figure it out as leanout with your foot down hard can do some damage very quickly!
