Joe - custom cams - quite aggresive profile, I timed them in for not a lot of overlap at tdc though

what sort of overlap are you using and did you advance the exhaust ? leaving inlet alone ?

good point - ok some numbers, 144hp/168lb/ft at 4500rpm, hehe - sorry!

Personally I think that you're all guessing way too high, if you extrapolate this up you only get about 280 before the cam drops off, the only way I can see that John's would have broken 300 is if he was running staged boost and was making significantly more boost higher up the rev range, which is not unheard off. Unfortunately my little engine simulator spreadsheet is on my work machine so I'm not able to crunch the numbers properly.

interesting points all ways - Rob the boost was constant from 4500 onwards, I could have run a lot more boost from 5500 upwards but really didn't want to pay for picking my rods out of the dyno wall!

Matt - we made the decision to run it on the engine dyno to look after it and make sure it was accurate, and to give the gearbox a few more hours chance!

I agree, what has happend to the TM spirit.

Engine wise this is one of the highest developed A-series aorund. Yes it might have been talked up 2-years ago, but that's still a rapid development compared to many cars on this forum. a certain Fiat headed engine for one, and we'd all still be interested in how that will perform.

No what did that Guniess advert say?

Thanks Matt - for fun I plotted the "thrust" curves, through the gears, for this engine/gearbox combo on top of the ones I had for the car running the 163hp K motor back in 06. In 4th gear at any road speed from 70mph onwards (it generates more thrust the faster it goes due to the shape of the torque curve) this engine is pulling much, much harder than the 163hp K was in second gear at any point in second gear - gulp! back when it had 163hp it tried to get into the wall a couple of times - double gulp!

285-290hp. Given by what john has said in this thread. Thats an optimistic figure.

However!

I get a feeling that the figure John has suggested is not a peak torque figure.

Given the use for this engine. 280 degree rotation cams would seem right, and 4500rpm for a peak torque figure is quite low to match. I would expect a good 1000rpm on top of that again for a peak figure.

168 @ 4500, i would presume this is still climbing. So say. 180 @ 5500.

I dont see it produceing this torque level at 9000rpm. Just cant stay that flat all the way accross. But for the sake of this, just say it does. 308bhp at 9000rpm.

So im gunna guess in a range of

285-310bhp @ 9000rpm.
266ATW-287ATW @ 9000rpm

But honestly, i dont care. I just wanna see all these gizmo`s the car has on it in action, and see how it goes!

Sam - good going fella - yes it can stay that flat all the way across, I don't need to run past 8K

174 lb/ft at 5500
188 lb/ft at 6500

285bhp at 8k then. Not bad going.
