I've had a couple of maniflow systems and they weren't loud. Sounded spot on IMHO.

Back in the mists of time as an impressionable 18 yr old I had a Maniflow single box system. I thought it sounded great and even my 91 yr old next door neighbour at the time told me it "sounded well".
I'm sure the twin box would have been a bit quieter, but as above, I've no doubt maniflow could make a larger volume silencer to reduce noise levels.

ive had both single and twin 1 7/8 inch maniflow system on the same mini, same backbox but i added the maniflow mid pipe with the extra box sounded better with the twin box, quieter on cruize but not much difference full throttle

Yes i moved to the darkside *happy*

I wasn't picking on Maniflow in particular, I actually think they make good sounding not to noisy stuff, just a general comment.

The playmini deffo needs a mid section silencer on a non turbo car.

Any straight through system is going to be inherantly noisier than a baffled system.

I get the feeling that if the pipe size is too small, the gas velocity is higher and as such doesn't allow the gasses to expand as much in the silencer, but a bigger pipe slows the velocity down and the silencer can absorb more of the energy. Im not clever enough to know for sure without any back to back testing *happy*

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

as above the demand is for single box systems,

IMO even a small secondary box behind the gearchange will make a significant difference to noise, and needed sap power,

However, I have opted for no box's....

i did have one of the all black sportex single box side exit systems in the past on a 998 and that was quiet, but the centre exit one that was fitted to an old clubby i had when i bought it was loud. do bends help with noise reduction?

one day boost will be mine!

I think with Maniflow it depends on the system.

I was worried about NZ's boyracer laws that have introduced maximum DB for road and road going Competition cars and therefore which exhaust to buy. (90 & 95 DB depending on factors)

I checked with Maniflow and was informed that the twin muffler 2" system could be made to produce 80 db or less. I've brought one on that basis but have yet to finish the project. I'll find out when the car goes for certification.

Having a bike that has a 104db track only system*surprised* I’d say that 80 db should be neighbor friendly 8-).

I guess it all boils down to the fact that if Maniflow sold quiet exhausts, they wouldn't sell any exhausts; if you see what I mean.

Northants

We used to have 2 roadworthy NA 998's, both exactly the same spec except one had a side exit maniflow system and the other had a centre exit maniflow system, both single boxes.

The side exit system had a boomy exhaust note but the centre exit sounded nice and raspy...

Australia oi oi oi!

Graham just had this same problem.. Very boomy and vibrated in the car at 3k

I put a small baffle in the exhaust.

God saver fixed my problem and the car is still as fast as :) did not notice any power difference.
