its not running atm but if u keep an eye out its gd, thats if the old 1 applies. Rule of thumb was if it had a pilot light it applies

what ever you do, check the flow rate for the hot water - this has a huge impact on usability

as for boilers, you tend to find the installers 'recommend' the ones they either have less problems with for a callback, or get the best discount at the supplier.

have a search around as well and see if there are any government cashback deals avaialable in your area - we got £400 back for installing ours

The guy who has quoted me £1060 for the bolier and another 1k for fitting, i told him i can get the boiler for £150 less than him and i'm not trade, he said that was the price he was given. anyway £1k for fitting he can fuk right off at that price.

i don't think the scrapage is still running but worth a look.

Are the condensing boilers really much more efficient than normal ones ?

Regular heating boiler, not a combi. Large bungalow with dodgy insulation and far too many windows !
last winter was a struggle in terms of heat

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

replaced ours just over a year ago, got fed up with the old system of boiler and hot water tank. was not planning to stay in the house that long so got one of the cheapest B&Q offered £450 iirc. but its a small terrace with 5 radiators.

no problems so far, touch wood. flow rate is very good, we run the shower off the boiler as i hate electric showers.

We had a leaflet through the door the other day from British gas saying they'll pay you for your old boiler??

Might be worth contacting them, I'm sure it was £400...

we saved over £500 in year 1 after replacing our old system boiler with a condensing boiler

definatly better, i dont remember the numbers but after fitting the boiler we reduced our direct debit hoping it would be cheaper. i gave them a meeter reading last week and we are in credit.

i assume you went from pilot light and hot water cylinder to combi?

sure did - although i'd probably go for another system boiler and pressurized cylinder if i did it again to improve the flow rate

yes and No, it depends on what the system is and more importantly what temperture differential you can get between you flow and return. If its a typical system with a flow of say 77 and a return of 65 then it will condense a lot less than something with a, underfloor system or system designed to get a decent differential.

What saves the most fuel and hence money for most that swap from an older boiler is the fact that a lot of modern boilers are now modulating, so theres a bit more control than on or off and also that heat exchanger design is far more efficient and they have a lower water content. The outer skin on modern boilers is normally cool/cold now while boilers manufactured in excess of 10 years ago give off shite loads of heat in to the space. weve suffered a few instances of freezing in plantrooms after swapping boilers out for more modern ones because of this lack of heat and the M&E engineer forgets to install some form of frost protection!!! Bloody moder efficienct things!!!

Tis bust. I found a service manual but it was a bit vague, I've done all the standard checking the water drain thing and the pressure, I think a plumber might be in order..
