IIRC there isn't any oil to drill out that is owned by the UK anymore - dont hold me to that but I've heard it somewhere.

If that isn't true then it will be that corporations have bought the rights to all of the oil in british territory and that it is all essentially theirs

no fuel is so cheap in america for one major reason - they are an oil producing country, the oil they source goes into the country and is used internally - when britain was an oil producing country it used to be the same way (hence why it was so cheap a while ago) when margret thatcher got into power she sold off ALL of the natural resources in this country (oil, gas etc) and now we have to buy it back in - hence why utility bills and petrol prices are forever climbing because other countries know this is a requirement for us and rip us off with it.

North Yorkshire

And those corporations get the shit taxed out of them from the profits they make on North Sea oil and gas. They find it, drill it, sell it, and get taxed. They don't trot off into the sunset with all the cash. BP and Shell are both British registered companies, as is Centrica. If it wasn't for North Sea oil and gas we'd be on our arse with Greece. In fact, we would have been on our arse from the 70s onwards.
