I too have a pioneer kuro (kuro is black in Japanese), they producethe best black of all time. They actually have a very large following. However pioneer don't make them any more. And they cost a small fortune (£3k). Today's tv's are far better value. If you want good, buy a what hi fi, look at the reviews. The back then go online and find one cheap. I've done that without even looking at the tv and not been disappointed.

You need to decide on size and how much you want to spend. Pick 2 or three units and look at those. IMO looking ina store isn't the best idea as the factory settings are never any good anyways.

Good luck!

I have a Pioneer Kuro and it's fantastic, but apparently the newer ones aren't nearly as good.

We also have one in the bedroom, which is an ebuyer special (like the one linked above). They are generally LG inside a black box. That has also been spot on with a decent enough picture

Has digital TV made it to Suffolk?

Mine didn't cost anything like that. I usually read the reviews and get last years best TV. Cracking TV though.

we've got a selection in the house; 40" sanmsung in the livingroom is fine with the AV tuner. The 26" sony bravia upstairs has fantastic sound quality ofr what it is.

I think the unit we have in the kitchen is a panasonic LED 20"; picture is fine but sound is shit

I don't have the Pioneer Kuro because when my 3rd generation Pioneer failed (power supply board at 7 years old) they had just stopped making the Kuro, in fact stopped making plasmas full stop.

The prices rocketed on old stock and even on second hand.

However, Pioneer sold all the technology and rights of the Kuro to Panasonic....

Panasonic incorporated most of Pioneer's technology into it's range (not all as it would have been too expensive) and the result is superb. The black level is as good as any of the Kuros I saw in showrooms (before I left it too late to buy one) so if you want plasma instead of LED, Panasonic gets my vote.

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

you tool Tom. (just cos you said i can call you it *happy*!)
PMSL! Tom... I can't do that and buy a TV with a Scart plug mate, it's all to much for me, what even next!!

Well just got back from the shops, would you believe it, the one i setted on was out of stock! So might as well order it on line as to pay extra in the shops and get them to deliver it.

Well looking at this one, in the shops the screen seems to be as good as any and with the built in HD it just pushed it a little clearer.

SAMSUNG UE32D5520 32" Full HD LED TV

Any one have one of these?

Matt where do you live?

Just we got our samsung 40" LED 6 series from costco (american version of a macro) It was about the same price as the cheapest on the internet but came with extra warranty! They have loads of tvs in there.

With you being self employed I'm sure you'd get a card, and if you managed to get a trade card its vat free! *wink*

we got ours from Costco at the time - 5 year warranty included.

trade card doesnt make it VAT free though (i've got one and I still pay at the till). If your VAT registered though, you will be able to reclaim on the basis that Matt is using it as a monitor for work purposes - same for tax

Call me a tool if you want but I have a 42" Plasma bought off a mate and its perfectly fine for the limited amount of TV I watch.
Maybe some people can play with the settings to their hearts content and get a "superior" picture, but I reckon most of us would be hard pushed to tell any difference?

Anyway Matt whilst you are at the electricals shop are you going to consider an upgrade to the best tape player in the Willymini?

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

I've got a 50" Samsung Plasma. HD 3D, all the fecking D's. Built in Freeview, internet.

I'd love to say i bought it because i geek out a fair wack and do abit of gaming, so the plasma is meant to be better for that with its superior response time. But i didn't.

It's was on special, with a 3D HD blu-ray player and a few pairs of glasses.

Its a TV and images move around on it and if you want them to they come out at you aswell. Its damn good quality though and gaming on it is fecking good (3D incar on GT5 is sweet! and so is COD but hard).

I got suck it by all the bells and whistles but at the end of the day i am happy with it and will hopefully have it for quite a while.

was going to say, if i was shopping for a new tv i'll go for a free view hd built in or freesat, with a usb for quick vewing of photos ect, not sure how smoth all the ondemand stuff runs or the home network wireless.... it might be worth reading what hifi/tv mag as they rate this stuff and explane how well it all works.

havnt seen 3D, but have heard mixed vews on it, is it that well devloped? good
luck i got so stressed when buying mine, sony.

I've only watched a 3D TV once, they were demoing one by showing beach volley ball. Obviously thought up by some bloke who knew it would get the primary group of potential buyers attention, needless to say it worked and looked awesome *wink*
