"The current record for a 1000cc stock run is 194kmh (121mph), but one of the class records we want to have a crack at is 212kmh (132mph)," Mr Orton said.

Making the power is the easiest part of what he wants to do. And they did say the big record will be on methanol ?
9.85 @ 145mph

getting 80 indicated mph out of your bedford is not the same as covering 1760 yards in 40 seconds

Im sure a 1000cc car can be made to go faster than this without much effort. If i can get 80 out of a brick shaped bedford rascal with 970cc i cant see it being that difficult. How hard can it be? |

Very few LSRs are easy... At Bonneville you not only have to contend with altitude (4300ft) which for a normally aspirated engine would mean around 12% less power than the same engine at sea-level but also the surface is both draggy and lacking in grip. Remember that the power to overcome aero drag increases with the cube of speed, meaning that your Rascal would need 4 times the power to do 125 that it would to do 80. There are lots of classes that you can run in for Bonneville records - and a turbo A-series could be a good bet for some of them. From memory i think the fastest record set by an A-series was around 146 in a streamliner called Wee-Wee Eel, with a fastest one-way run of 172. I've got some photos I took of it when I was at Bonneville in 1999 - if I can find them I'll post them. This is what we were running in '99 - I'm in the pickup that it passes just after the motor fires. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6FnLHUIxdU |

Points taken. It did take most of the M60 to get to 80 but she did it. Eventually.

Looks like they've dropped the blower in favour of a turbo:

A big intercooler has also appeared, so 250hp is starting to look like a possibility. Saul Bellow - "A great deal of intelligence can be invested in ignorance when the need for illusion is deep."

998's are probably ok to 9k, but its a 970 anyway so 9k will be a breeze.

with the salt flats being considerably above sea level, it is easier to turn up boost on a turbo, than it is with a supercharger. It is also asir to start conservative and work towards that final all or nothing run.

Is it A-Series only? I think it should be... So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'... On 26th Oct, 2004 Tom Fenton said:
