I know what you mean, our Mini 30, before it got bent, was a joy to drive.

However, I would have to say that my 998 Turbo is as good. A 2.95 diff, helical gears and 2 layers of carpet to deaden the noise from the RC40 keeps noise down. The injection is smoother, off boost torque is great due to the long intake runners and makes cruising pleasant. Hit the load pedal and it will pass 100mph with ease. Best of both worlds.

My clubby estate is great for normal use. With the 1380 torque. Shame about the 3.44 fimal drive top speed is abit down

13.95 1/4 mile on a 2.95 fd. Carnt be that hard to beat!

Standard is boring. When I rebuilt mine it was standard as it was my first ever rebuild, took me a year to do but after a few weeks of driving it I needed more speed more noise and more 'bling'. So it went down and out with a full fletcher system. Sounded absolutely gorgeous! Everyone I knew could tell when I was coming and everyone waved at me. But after 2 years as a daily and 2 years as a weekend toy I felt I needed some comfort, more space a decent sounds system that you can actually hear over the exhaust! So I bought a daily modern car. Had a few but it's nice to just jump in a car without caring about where it's parked what's the winter gonna be like, a heater that heats up quickly etc. I could never have a thrash around mini. I love them too much. I suppose it depends on what you want.

i got nothing but time..

i miss the 998 screemer i had in this mini first time round
when i bought the other car i missed the mini so much i bought another as a 2nd car, then that became my commuter car
now i have only got the volvo i have full intentions of putting the turbo on the road, i have spent so much it seems pointless having it as only a track car
i have not driven it much but already prefer it on 10's than the 13' i used to have on it

Yes i moved to the darkside *happy*

As a result of compusive tinkering disorder I admitted to myself a long time ago that I had made the car so impracticle to use on the road that I brought a trailer and now only use it for racing. I now keep looking at Mk 1's as a new project to use as a road car. Is there any hope for me??????????????

Ha I'd say no! I said to myself I just wanted a daily to run around in. So I got a polo after I decided to use the mini as a weekend toy. What Happened.. I decided to modify the polo, lowered it 100mm on collies with wheels. Next I though ok let's start again so sold that for a comfortable car as I was fed up of pot hole dodging, I bought an a3 already lowered on collies and wheels : loved it wad really nice. Next I thought right I seriously gotta get an unmodified car. Bought a citroën zx off my boss. That stayed standard but after a few months I got bored of that so I then bought an Alfa sud that had been lowered. So moral of the story we can't leave things alone!! Ha.

i got nothing but time..

mines pretty much stock at the minute and tbh with you I hate the slowness

Its a 998 with standard interior and it actually makes my shoulders ache. Went from Coventry to Weymouth the other week and about half way there I was wasted. Now if I took my girlfriends clio then I would of been fine - purely due to the larger seats giving shoulder support.

If anything when I finish the turbo lump I think ill love it more because I'll be able to actually overtake things, I plan to change the seats to something alot comfier as well and actually add in more sound deadening. This way it should be usable on a daily basis - only problem is the unreliability of getting it started on a cold morning but im hpoing megajolt is going to sort that out for me.

All in all Im going to be looking for a reliable second car (probably a clio williams or a 172) just so I have something that will guarentee that I can get to my lectures in the morning. That said if I can make the car more comfy, quiter in the cabin and reliable I wont bother

edit: wasted as in tired not pissed up
