Dont use them on the road - simple as that

I seriously doubt it!

In different countries, different things are legal / illegal. something that is 'safe' in one country is 'dangerous' in others.

So I've done some research.

The UK law is VERY vague about tyres. Or, actually, its really simple.

If the tyre does not SPECIFICALLY SAY its not for highway use, and it has tread meeting the basic requirements of depth, and cover of the surface, then they are ok.

Lack of E markings / DOT markings dont mean a tyre is not 'legal', but HAVING an E marking, even trumps the 'not for highway use' thing.

The not for highway use BOLLOCKS is just to allow the tyres to be legally SOLD in certain marking without having to submit to testing. It simply means that the tyre manufacturer will not be held responsible for anything. << note this statement, means exactly that - they havent been tested, doesnt mean they are not suitable - and it also equally doesnt mean that they are.

In this case, we are not talking about GOLF BUGGY tyres, these are from a performance tyre company, and are designed to be used on a racetrack. I am trying to figure out what would prevent these from being used?

perhaps things like good puncture resistance?
perhaps, they don't deal well with potholes? just guessing here?

As to whats wrong with a032 / 008 - nothing - I have a008s on the car right now - I just think they look a little feeble. Super pissed, that I can't get a wider tyre here - actually - amazed!

I want to run a set of 7" wheels, and I'd like a little more tyre on the road. yep it's cosmetic.
much the same as a nice paint job is cosmetic, or wheel design is cosmetic etc. So I hope we all agree (well most people anyway) that it is actually OK to do things for cosmetic reasons???

If these don't fit the bill - perhaps there are others that do? I googled A LOT, and couldnt find anything- and then these - and wondered....

You seem to be determined to fly in the face of all those offering advice and to justify the use on the road based on what could be loop hole. Just buy a set and see what happens

If you are set on it, have you looked into miglia tyres and where they stand? They won't be legal but worth a look none the less.

That quote Sprocket is not for the tyres that he is contemplating. they are for the DOT marked tyres, which these are not.

Wil, I'm not sure what you are saying here. I read it as ALL Hoosier tyres, INCLUDING the DOT marked tyres, excluding Pro Street, are not for highway use. The tyres pictured are not from the Pro Street catagory as those tyres start at 15"

On 3rd Feb, 2012 wil_h said:
Considering that they are suitable for hillclimbs aand they take place on what is a highway in most cases, they are unlikey to cause death or injury.

While the roads used in sprints and hill climb may be public roads, they are closed to the public during an event and as such they are now a closed and controlled track, such that danger areas are bailed off for example. I do agree though the the durability of the tyre on a specific surface will not directly result in death, but in the event that these tyres are used on a public road, for general use that does result in death, the insurance will be null and void.

Using a tyre that is specifically stated by the manufacturer not for highway use (which I highly suspect they are marked as) on the public roads, you are breaking the law driving without insurance.

I did ask hooooosier, they said that the tyres are designed for competition, and they couldn't comment on their suitability for any other purpose.

If you read my post, I asked if anyone had tried them, the answer is apparently NO.

I thank all the tyre experts for their opinions though.

i can say one thing which is, when it rolls into the test centre the first thing any tester is going to see is hoosier on the tyre and instantly know they arnt road tyres, ust depends how dodgy your tester is going to be. and how deep your pockets are if you have an accident as your insurance company probably wont pay out if there is any grey area over the legality of your tyres. that will be left to you to foot the bill for all involved party's.

one day boost will be mine!

Must agree. What's the point. A032Rs will offer fantastic grip, are cheap and look the tits.

They fit all your criteria and won't get you knicked

In the 13's at last!.. Just

They fit all your criteria and won't get you knicked or need changing every few miles.

Get a stencil and paint 'Hoosier' on the sidewall of your tyre if you want the 'look'.

No I was talking about the Hoosiers. The disclaimer that Sprocket quoted (as far as I understand it) was for the DOT marked tyres. The ones talked about in this thread are not DOT marked.

Without a DOT mark it can be assumed that they are not intended for road use. But the DOT mark will confuse people (thinking that they are for road use), so the disclaimer exists for them.

The Hoosiers I have say 'FOR RACING PURPOSES - NOT FOR HIGHWAY USE' on the side, and no DOT or E markings. The tyres in this thread will be the same.

As a minimum I guess it will invalidate your insurance if you use them.

wasn't being sarcastic. Sorry if it came across that way. Would have added a roll eyes thing or something.

Seems the consensus is they are illegal. And if I fit them, i will be the laughing stock of the UK, until I die in a ball of flames, probably after barrel rolling the mini through a nursery.

Prolly not a good idea..

I still think 032s LOOK a bit lame - even stretched. Not talking about the logos (which I don't really dig on the Hoosiers either - just the width. *tongue*

Carl that looks fookin epic mate :)

Madmx, buy some already, test it out then if you smack your car up its your own fault and you cant say no one tried to give you some decent and hoenst advice.

Not being sarcastic, nasty or petty here but I've met people that wont listen to advice in the clio scene. This one 16y/o decided he would put his harnesses on his "rear strut brase" which was nothing more than a 2mm rolled tube of aluminium, when everyone tried to tell him it wouldnt hold up in a crash he was was having none of it. One fo the members on there was from an engineering background and long story short he did some clever maths and worked out that his flimsy piece of shit "strut brace" would have to stand up to 3 landrovers being thrown at it in a crash because of the forces involved. He never listened and had a crash shortly later - never heard from him again because we all presumed he was dead due to the "strut brace" snapping and his harnesses therefore gave way.

Morale of the story is listen to the advice because these guys obviously know what there talking about.

Edit: Just found the thread with regards to it:

I must say its a shame the don't do the A032's in 185 70 10 as the only reason most go for 13's is more rubber on the road. Mass email to yokohama anyone?

Nice show cage. And shitty halfords audio.
It's probably only a 1.1 too. With a VTR bodykit bolted to it.
We saw a corker the other evening at the pub before our mini meet.
I can't find a picture with a shit enough bodykit, but this is pretty close http://www.hmstores.co.uk/mainstore/images/saxo_sypher_1.jpg

This one was white, we were looking around the pub trying to pin an owner to it, unfortunately there were quite a few typical 'chavs' around so it could have been anybody. This one was painted white, very poorly.
