I'm wanting to do it to try and remove the casting marks which as you say maybe form into cracks. If there is some weight saving then that will be a bonus.

I broke two casings last year if this was the result of the gears failing and forcing them apart and then breaking I don't know, for a few quid and some time in the workshop I don't see it as a disadvantage.

Ive only ever seen them break as a result of the gears breaking tbh

Edited by paul wiginton on 23rd Feb, 2012.

I seriously doubt it!

I'm not knocking it, just trying to weigh up whether it's worth my time for other reasons than weight. I've sorted the crack propigator, lol basically the cores were not glued together properly leaving a nice gap you could see daylight through.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

I enjoy doing that sort of thing and its nice to know that Ive done things to my car that is out of the ordinary. If you dont get that kind of thrill from doing it then its probably not worth it.

I seriously doubt it!

Near Paris - France

How about cooling ?

Polished internals = less area for the heat of oil to get out ?

Well, maybe just fit an oil cooler then (wich might offset to weight advantage ...)

Rusty by nature

It's not finished but probably spent a good day on it so far. I would have finished it but couldn't get any more flap wheels over the weekend!
