Now this I do like *happy*! I see what you mean now *smiley*

I really would only have 3 passengers in it very rarely but i don't want to lose that just yet.

So what we are saying is;

Fit this 3 point harness, put all the hardware in and support plates for the rear shelf so this is mounted securely. when I am going to have a passenger in the back I can just unclip it and use standard seatbelt, and then the retractable part can stay on the rear shelf.

Am I visioning this right ?

Really wouldn't be a problem changing it when i was going to have a passenger and slotting the rear seats in, some joys to not having a roof.....

As would only ever have someone in the rear a couple of times a year.

Only a couple of times a year? Your just not making an effort!

All you need to do is find a link to some that are for sale now.

one day boost will be mine!

Sorry, poor effort from me haha......

I'll certainly be shopping for one as soon as I now narrow down exactly how to secure it safely.

Could weld in a bar across the back, attached half way down the bar that goes to the rear tub

Slight different design now and £42.50 for the bar and can do wrap around or bolt on fitting. Uses original C pillar mount and centre bar to prevent it from twisting as only one fixing at either end. Also do the ones that fit on the rear arches to raise the mounting points up a bit. Can email more pictures for those that dont think they look wank lol *happy*

Years ago a mate of mine had hardnesses and rear seats in a fiesta, harnesses were bolted to the rear bulkhead so if you wanted to sit in the back you could straddle the harness and still wear a seat belt, wasn't the most comfy especially for us guys, but safe and legal

Just a suggestion Jon, but I think it would better if it was more subtle, and not so much in your line of view. All it would need is a couple of kinks either end and then the centre support angled (maybe same angle as screen). *oh well* Something like this.

New design has bar lower down and further back which then allows the bar to slope forward. This was just a mock up to see if the design would work. Awaiting delivery of new welder before I can make a batch of the new design up. Ordered welder on 48-hour delivery, 2 weeks ago lol

I like your thinking Matt. My two thoughts are:

1) run it as close to the parcle shelf as possible and just behind where the seat fits. It needs no more space than the 2mm thickness of the webbing.

2) use a smaller tube. That looks like standard roll cage CDS, I reckon you could go a lot smaller.

Sorry about the wank comment, but it is not asthetically pleasing as it is, but you know that.

I Am really thinking about just fitting the 4 Point Harness to both seats and fixing to the rear bulkhead with the relevant reinforcement and Eye bolts and then as and when I need to carry a passenger in the back just remove the Eye bolts and Harness's and put the Standard belts back in......

A bit of mucking about but i wont be changing it that often, theres nothing stopping me doing this is there ? just the ball ache of having to do it.

Brilliant, I think that I am prepared to accept the consequences due to myself being awkward.

Now will the following be adequate mounted to the rear seat bulkhead with the plates on the Boot side ? I am just alarmed that the price for the Plates seems Very cheap ? is this reflected in its quality? should i have bigger plates ? open to ideas.

http://www.minisport.com/mini-spare-parts/info_SAB4501.html

But if the eye bolt method is ok then i can just unscrew the eyebolts and drop the rear seats back in with standard belts on the odd occasion i need to.

If you have rear seat belts already fitted you can screw those eye bolts directly into an existing mount at the base of the rear seat.

Yeah when i had mine on the road i had a 4 point harness, bolted where the rear seats used to bolt to as shellspeed said. The seatbelt angle seemed safe IIRC.

Mine are bolted to the original mounting points at the bottom of the rear bench.

Hey Guys,

Mine is a 79 shell, so not sure I would have them at all ?
