Shell garage accross the road still has queues as I walked over a minute ago, almost as bad as when I drove past it earlier. Crazyness! |

Just going to work from home. Did want a shake down trip in the mini this Sunday will be a pain if I can't get fuel! ESP now it only has a small tank in. I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

with a bit of a google, there seems to be a lack of clear understanding of the regulations on the storage of petroleum spirit for domestic use, with fire and council authorities suggesting various different storage allowancies, so I tracked down the the actual regulations.

I'm going to wait until friday morning. Everyone will have filled their tanks/ cans, the stations will have re stocked and there will be no ques, lol. does anyone one know yet when the strike will take place and for how long? Last I heard the strike will be next week, so what is all the rush to fill up 5 days before? LMFAO Edited by Sprocket on 28th Mar, 2012. On 26th Oct, 2004 TurboDave16v said:

with a bit of a google, there seems to be a lack of clear understanding of the regulations on the storage of petroleum spirit for domestic use, with fire and council authorities suggesting various different storage allowancies, so I tracked down the the actual regulations. The Petroleum Spirit (Motor Vehicles) Regulations 1929 http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksro/1929/9...19290952_en.pdf states for domestic use, a maximum of two appropriate metal containers of 10 litres each can be stored in a suitable garage (Paragraph 5 (d) (ii) ), additional, a maximum of two appropriate metal containers of 10 litres each can be stored on a motor vehicle (paragraph 8 (1) (b) ). You can store no more than 275 litres of pertoleum spirit on one site (paragraph 6) without the need for a storage licence, and without getting too complicated, it is worked out as the sum of the fuel tank capacity of each vehicle, plus any fuel stored in approved containers not greater than 10 litres each within 20 feet of a building, road or path. For example if you have 2 cars sat on the drive infront of the garage, you can store two 10 litre metal jerry cans of pertol in each car. The tank capacity of each car plus the jerry cans in each car, plus the two jerry cans in your garage must not excede the 333 litres. You should rally have a storage licence if you have 20 litre jerry cans, and, they are not storred at least 20 feet away from any building, road, or path, and not bunded such that spillage does not flow out of that storage area in the event of a fire (Paragraph 7) Where the use of plastic jerry cans is the case http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1982/630/made the maximum is two 5 litre plastic containers in the garage, and two 5 litre plastic containers in the car. This is of course my interpretation of these regulations. The regulations are easilly open to interpretation. I see nothing that says you cannot use all metal cans, all plastic cans, or a mix of metal and plastic. The individual container size is undisputable dependant on container material, as is the number of containers and where they can be stored, without the requirement of a licence. We all know that doesn't happen. Don't take what I have said here as gospel, read the regulations linked to above and make your own mind up. DERV doesn't seem to be as harshly regulated.

Seems OK here, went past a filling station (don't often do this in my Shogun!) on the way to work, there were 2 vans and 2 cars there, and a couple of free pumps.

anyone else think of this as a way for fuel companies to make more money? I mean really, will they actaully go on strike? Just wish if they do go on strike they make it last a fair few weeks in an attempt to bring fuel prices down :/ On 10th Mar, 2012 theoneeyedlizard said:
