Ben, have just mailed him to ask about the boost and the mileage. The only thing that sets alarm bells ringing is that he said he's running a bleed valve. When i mailed him before he claimed that the engine was sweet and didn't smoke. As its still in the car he said it can be seen running. Still a little sceptical of ebay engines though.

Fuel filter is crazy!!! Pretty though...

I have to be honest that any Metro turbo engine that has been installed in a Mini is going to have been thrashed no matter what the owner claims. No one goes to the bother of doing the conversion to trundle about do they.
I would be asking if it has ever been rebuilt? had a head gasket? any gearbox work?

The only plus side is at least you can see and hear it running and possibly drive it. Make sure it has got good oil pressure when hot for a start.

no, i didn't buy the engine. I think it went for £520. Thought that could be a pretty expensive gamble.

I'll keep you guys posted on what i decide to do...

Aright Ric, so we convinced you to go turbo then?!!*happy*

Your best bet is too pick up a complete donor car, Wes bought his for £200 and we had his running for about a year without any problems.

We were 18 and apart from doing some engineering at college neither of us had a clue about turboing a mini-(Still havn't LOL) and probably wouldn't of attempted it without this site-thats what this sites all about isn't it to help others sort out problems n stuff!

I converted my N/A block into turbo but you always get problems when you need to get some of the "non-mainstream" A-series parts!

Best bet look for the right donor car and whilst your looking get the rest of the car ready e.g Bulkhead box, fuel lines, etc. and see if you can get some money for your old engine?!

Ok, i've just bought a turbo, manifold and head for what i consider to be a good price. I'll be picking them up tomorrow and will then have to decide what other bits i need.

Probably going to stick with my bottom end and gearbox as it's only done 35k

EDIT...

Hey matty, only just seen your post. Cheers for advice. I'm blaming you and wes for this... if i hadn't gone out in your cars, i wouldn't want a turbo so much!! *wink*

Have been looking for donor metty turbos, but people just want silly money for them now. I blame ebay and the muppets that pay over the odds for everything.

I would recommend getting the head chambers enlarged to get your CR down.

People on here have said Morspeed do it for in the region of £50.

Simon's doing ours, I think he said it was £60. He's away on the L2B run at the mo though. :)

Ric, you'll thank me when yours is all finished.*happy*

I did't realise your engine was so low milage. Otherwise i would of said different.

Hope your build goes bit smoother than mine. LoL

Haha, i doubt it will!! When you attempt these things for the first time you always encounter tricky problems.

Still just trawling ebay for bits, need a bulkhead box, dizzy, oil feed pipe, down pipe, FPR and all new gaskets. Oh and probably about a million other things that i've overlooked!! *wink*

Also want to stick a bleed valve, dump valve and boost gauge in, but i figure i should get the essentials first.

hmm £500 for a turbo lump i reckon this is the going rate these days, i dont wanna sound gay but turbo engines are rare these days, and i really would go as far as saying they are like rocking horse shit.

Still am encountering problems, slowly but surely im getting them sorted.

Have you thought about changing your cam, and clutch whilst you've got your engine out?

Don't think there's much point in changing the cam, i think the one that's in there is a fairly good profile.

The clutch does need to be done, I'm not sure exactly what parts i need to do it though. SPis are slightly different than normal 1275s, i think it's to do with having a crank sensor or something. As i'll be ditching all the ECU crap i don't think i need it though. Any ideas?

I think things may be slowing down now though, as the Leon needs some stuff doing to it and as it's a daily driver it kinda has to come first.
