I ran s brakes no servo many years ago on my road car. They were equally as good as the 8.4" 2 pot setup, you just had to have a strong right leg. They were also quite sensitive to pads, cheap hard pads equalled crap brakes, but with some 1144 Mintex they were good.

Right foot? *hehe!* I left foot brake more than the Right one :S

I went from minispares 4 pots to S calipers last year, both with Carbon metalic pads, and I find the S calipers better...pretty much the same effort needed, and it brakes just as good. I have not tried to cook them on the track, so my findings are from spirited road driving only

What happens when your going quick and braking while changing down?

On my pickup I've got Mintex pads, and they are exeptionally inferior to the CM pads.

So, which pads are these then?

http://minispares.com/Product.aspx?ty=pb&pid=32846 ????
75 quid for a set of pads seems damn steep -

Yes its those. They are not brilliant, but good from cold, but very good when slightly warmed up

The thing I don't quite get, is that you say the S calipers were slightly better.

metro 4 pots: 1.414" diameter = 3.141" sq piston area

mini 8.4" : 2" diameter = 3.142" sq piston area

Cooper S: 1.75" diameter = 2.405" sq piston area

Clearly metro 4-pots and mini 8.4 are damn close and it's just down to the radius of the piston to the disc as making a slight difference, but the 4-pots compared to the S caliper is a 30% increase in area, hence 30% increase in force for same line pressure (assuming similar contact point on disc). That has to translate to a noticably different feel under-foot??? It doesn't make any sense - unless the pads weren't different? Either way - it says a lot of the CM pads I guess. *smiley*

I agree, it should have made a difference... Both sets of cm pads where bought from msc, as where the calipers...

I run s breaks with no servo. Are you going to use a dual circuit master cylinder. Like others have said. They work really well but you do need a strong right leg. Servo gives you a more progressive feel. Mine are on or off.
