So a 30thou skim should clear it? Cast omegas sit 40thou down, on a standard block.

How deep are the rings in the block? Would it be possible to get the block skimmed to eliminate them and use some short pistons? Or machine the pistons as well so their flush?

Centred on each bore centre -

Fire ring recess OD in block top - 3.060"
Fire ring recess depth in block top - 0.027-0.029"

I guess that could be one way of getting round it, but how far can an A+ block be safely skimed?

Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem.

asuming that the block hasnt been decked so the pistons are flush before the rings are machined in....

you can skim quite a bit of an A+ block, iirc 1/4" has been done.

The Group A gaskets are NLA from what I've been told, I got the last one Moss had several months ago & got two from Portugal thanks to the efforts of Pedro on here.
Ferriday said he couldn't make one unforunately. The machining on the block could be skimmed out, but obviously the increase in compression needs to be considered.

Cheers for the info Phil. I guess with the rings skimmed out it would make a better N/A engine

I'd just get the shape laser / water jet cut in the appropriate thickness steel (matching the machined depth in the block) so I can use a standard gasket and have a running engine without resorting to a skim and raised CR.
Should take but a few minutes to make a DXF.

I would not worry about the compression problems, if you can call them problems, I run 10cc cast omegs, 20thou deck height and 8.4:1, all you need is 18cc pistons, or a few more cc in the head, but of course it depends if the block has previously been skimmedbefore the group a machining.
