I've got loks more thoughts to confuse you!

Maybe de-tune the engine and sell it as a restrored running turbo?

Look at it this way - in the last month we've seen Marks and Sauber's turbo minis up for sale. Two high spec'd cars. If you want to get back into the scene, there will always be vehicles available at some point.

However, let's be honest, prices are slowly rising. I reckon at least a half-dozen minis leave this country every week for export. And how many are scrapped each week (10?) so that means prices will rise of course, at least for vehicles worthy of the time being spent on them - or the other edge of the sword; it'll be harder to find a suitable base vehicle to start the project with.

Another consideration - we all like our turbocharged minis, but if somone asked you would you rather have a 180hp Vtec engine under the bonnet than a A-series turbo, what would you answer - Seriously?
You've had fun, but would you do another? I know i always will, just for the challenge of getting big bananas from a 50yr old engine - but i'm also going to be putting together a Vtec at some point aswell... If you went this route (which makes total sense- LOL!) your bits are not usefull to you.

Basically, decide wether you'll really believe you'll be back to an a-series turbo mini - or any modified mini - especially as you'll be starting your career soon, enjoying the pleasures of a mortgage instead of rent, and all the other great things that get in the way of building, working and fixing a modified mini.

ps - what do you reckon to this for 'taken to extreme'

I have to say Dave those are fair points. I started building m Mini Turbo over 6 years ago, and the only reason I am still doing it is that I have got so far with it now I can't just give up. But if I did not have it, I would say that at the moment I would probably not be building a turbo mini, but possibly a caterham or westfield instead, or maybe a race car to compete in.
I have been to uni and done the breadline-live on 4p beans thing, but now I have got a decent job with the accompanying decent wages, so can afford to have other cars to mess with as well as a mini slowly progressing.

Jim, it's a guy from Manchester Minis. He works at Moss, so gets a discount on Heritage panels!

It's a very late 'S' shell apparently, so worth restroring back to its original self.

the reason i said it is teh most valuable asset is simple. The engine will last 2/3 years hard use(as a daily driver) at best. the shell, now that its mint, will, with care last the same amount of time you do.. also, should you see the light and go the non-a-series route (awaits a flameing) you can hold on to your shell! Think about it, if you ever change anything on your mini, the only thing that will ALWAYS be there is the shell. Within reason, obv.

turbo 16v k-series 11.9@118.9 :)
