alternator back feeding into the loom. Too choices, either fit a new alternator/control module on the alternator or put a diode in the wire from the alternator to the loom.

Hypothetically speaking, where would you stick your nozzle?

Yes it does mate

I know what's going on I think, just to confirm it and assuming your brake lights are working, try pressing the brake pedal as you turn the key off. Does the engine stop and the ign light go out? If you then take your foot off th brake pedal does the ign light come back on?

I have a the correct diode, PM me your address and I'll chuck a few in the post.

There are three wires from the alternator plug. The thick brown one goes back to the starter/solenoid (charge wire), there is a Brown/Yellow wire. That goes to the dash light. The other wire (probably the middle one on the plug) is the ignition switched live to tell it to charge (brown I think from memory), that is the one that is back feeding.

Beaten to it but yes, the ign warning light is backfeeding power to your white wire and keeping the relay energised. The ign warning light has a white and a brown/yellow wire going to it, you need to fit a diode in series with one of these wires. I'd put it in the brown/yellow wire so you don't get confused (there's more than one white wire knocking around behind the dash).
Pressing the brake pedal removes the backfeed as the extra load of the brake lights will be sufficient to make the relay de-energise, that's why I asked such a random question!
