An engine for each axle still going to have traction issues in 1st and 2nd, especially at the front.

Imo a 4wd a series turbo would be awesome, a useable 200+hp in all gears, mega launch,

Doubt it would be as fast as a fwd mini with 200 bananas, due to the extra weight.

I suddenly remembered the Sti Quad by Ken Brough: (he did an buggy too)

Insane... but nice accomplishment building it...

There is the extra weight and also extra losses with 4wd, but imo would make up for it in pure grip, it's the one thing that let my mini down, and I feel many will agree (Brett at Santa pod being one) *wink* there would be no need for switchable boost, but mainly for me, it would be a lot more drivable, torque steer & traction wise, could be driven quick in the wet too

funny thing is though i can launch the mini repeatable on the road where grip is lower, once the mini is moving traction is not much issue, i dont have the slip for my PB but i have the slip for my 14.6, it shows a 2.9s 60ft and thats on 13psi, this year i was running 18/20/25/28 psi and my times were getting slower on each run with exception of the 28psi launch that was a monster but sadly ended my day at the pod
on the road if i drop a gear @60mph with 25psi boost it will light the wheels up, a fast shift in to 4th and i can keep the wheels spinning
craig did this in his s4 and we all shit the bed *happy*

all this being said though the mini engine is the wrong engine for 4wd
i toyed with 2 different settups before settling on my a-series because to me it HAS to be a-series to be a mini the traction issues/torque steer/ bump steer/ mini anckle all this is why i came back to minis ( from supra's) its what we do it for

Yes i moved to the darkside *happy*

If you spent some mega serious money then you could do:

carbon prop shaft
All hubs and mounts

then let Mr Paul Wiginton lose on it

(sorry if spelt wrong)

on 200bhp 4wd will let you nail the launch but hurt you all the way down the track because you have the grip to go but then waste more power on the drivetrain

For me, a 16valve turbo a series, with 4wd, in a pick up, awesome ha ha

I agree it will drag a little more once rolling, but I still believe it will be faster down the 1/4 with 4wd. Personal preference though

I fancy the idea of a Cosworth xd engine in the back of a space framed mini pickup, only 2.6 litres so you don't spin the power away off the line with tonnes of torque, but 15k rpm to make up for it.

Edit: Not a cheap option but a good lottery win or genius business idea will see me build it!

Asthetics was never allans strong point ( no offence Allan!) but he can drive and all his cars put down good times, and I believe that's the whole point of Motorsport.
