First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

Herefordshire

ready built from america, worked out at £88 i think + £17 import tax

then £20 for all the bits from a scrap yard

£2 for some shielded wire

a bargain

however then i spend £99 on the kad trigger wheel....

Grey, you're using a dizzy-less setup? You don't have to go that route, though, right? I should be able to use a standard electronic dizzy? And if so, do I still need the EDIS?

Sorry, I know there is a web site for this, but it's HUGE! There is just way too much disjointed info on it. I'm trying to get it all, but it will take some time...

i suppose if your not looking to have the mappable ignition, just run the injection then you could use the distributor, then i dont think you would need the edis

but i dont know much about the megaquirt...

however running an injection system on a dizzy would be like running in high heels. Enjoyable yes, but you wont be getting the full benefit and i think the 2 ecus can communicate with each other to make small real time adjustments

Hey nic, could you send me the details of where you got your mjlj from?

your price, even with import duty, is much cheaper than what ive found.

also, what alternatoves to the KAD trigger disc are there?

Ive heard people adapt the ford ones onto the crank damper quite easily, but havent seen any pics of how its done? anyone?
(why is there none on ebay?!?!)

cheers guys

Yeah I'd be interested in some contact details for the MJLJ at that price

sweet, ill look into it.

Im considering buying it all in component form now,

i.e. the circuit board, cpu and case

then all the electronic bits (resistors, connectors, diodes etc) separately.

Ive found a guy I can get all the electronic bits from:
kendrastirling@yahoo.co.uk

he makes up kits especially for the megajolt, and can do all the others too like megasquirt etc.

wish me luck

what sort of extra bits are require to build your own MJLJ and what sort of price and effort are we looking at compared to the prebuilt option?

there is a order from on the picaso site that automatically brings you to the checkout of some american electronics store.

in the list is items like resistors, zenor diodes, bias resistors, etc etc

the usual electronic stuff, tbh i got a little in over my head at that point, dont know enough electronical tech jargon i suppose, but found that kendrastirling guy on ebay selling bits and bobs for MS/MJLJ and he replied saying he sold specific kits, with everything you need to outfit the partial kits, as sold by brent picasso.

once you have acquired these parts, on the picasso site is a step by step guide to assembling it all. looks pretty easy if you can sling a soldering iron about.

I must look like im to-ing and fro-ing now...but i think after seeing how versatile the MS is I might head down that route, (its got more functions and its cheaper to build....??) then i have the option of injection later if i ever need it.
The only down side to the MS set up is that, from what ive been told, you definately have to use the MAP sensor (or a TPS sensor), so the install is slightly more involved, but not by much...

righto, hope thats helped rather than confused..

I'n mow confused.... For ignition control only (i'm not planning on using injection) which system should I use the jolt ot the squirt? and what parts do I need for the recommended system? (I tried looking ont he megasquirt site but its confusing)

I think your in my exact situation last week!!

From what Ive gathered (probably a good idea to check im correct with AlexF, ben h or anyone else in the know??)

The Megajolt Lite Junior (MJLJ) does Ignition only.

The Megasquirt (MS) does Fueling and/or Ignition.

Both can be used with EDIS

So far, from what people have told me, the Megasquirt is more advanced in the ignition dept, has more features etc (MS basically includes MJLJ and more).
When Ive been doing my sums up, seems to cost slightly less, if you get the bits from the right people.
And has more options for future improvements...

Plus more people seem to use it, so its easier to get help when needed.

Like I say, I could have it all wrong, so best check with someone in the know...

Mega Jolt Light Jr (MJLJ) is an ignition only system.

Mega Squirt is fuel only... BUT you can add on to MS and run MegaSquirt'nSpark or Squirt'nEDIS - there are several options!

For Ign only MJLJ is MUCH simpler to build, install, setup and use.

With either system a MAP sensor is the way to go, particualrly as you HAVE to run MAP on turbo engine.

Ah, yep, Im initially installing it on a non turbo, so the MAP thing is optional for me, forgot you guys are turbo specific :)

So, will the Megasquirt (with Squirt'nEDIS and a MAP sensor) be able to do just ignition?

Sorry for being so simple!

I'm still working through my kits at the moment.

I want to have a fully developed kit before I start selling these.

At the moment I am pricing up a kit of bits, I should have that done in the next day or two!

Joeybaby,

Just to clear this up, the megasquirt and megajolt have the MAP sensor built in. The standard map sensor will go to 21.5psi so for NA or forced induction it is fine you won't need any extra and the only thing you need to do on the install is attach a pipe from the manifold to the sensor.

On all the cars I have installed it on I have never installed a throttle pot. For ignition it is not necessary.

you can run throttle pos sensor on a MJLJ kit... it would make it a little bit cheap, but less flexable.

If you never plan to use the injection side of MS why pay extra for it?!
