Damn and blast, if only I still had a brown 924 to tempt you with.

Deffo get an air cooled 911 is your budget is good enough and you can afford to maintain it. Then sit back for a few years and watch your money grow

Like everyone else has said there two different car but so are 911's , do you want a 912 , 964 , 993 , 996 , 997 ect

the later are water cooled and earlie 996's sufferd from terminal engine failure !!! You could get a lovley 997 c2 for earlie 20k's now and would be a superb everyday car that would last.
993's are the last air cooled and are at a premium but as any of the air cooled they would be stunning as an investment/ weekend car

rick

ps personaly gaving had a 911 / 996 i would never have a boxter. Id rather not have another 911 in my life than settle for somthing that isnt one.lol

Boxter is a womans car, although you might get away with it if it had a hard top, much in the same way as the Mazda MX5 is a hairdressers car, but borderline acceptable if it had the hard top.

Its all about the hard top *wink*

Boxter s hard top and get an lsd, be different end of the day get what you want. My dads friend has a late mk2 mx5 soft top in light blue, lowered a little and standard wheels, a big supercharger and just under 300bhp girly car that will kick your ass!

Also why are people now bragging about what they have to leave a comment? Neil had a fair point, the boxter is still a good car and a hoot to drive, just because its a 'girley' car people slate it, its not a poor mans porsche a mgf is.

hardly!! mx5 has become the "cool" car to have over the years though, cheap as chips and you can get easy power out of them as your friend has proven (drifting scene has helped this massively). dont recall seeing that with the boxter over the year.

if i do see guys in them i still think he's a guy wanting a 911; but not really being able to afford one haha

i'd own an mx5, i wouldnt a boxter unless given it (doesnt mean its not a good car).

ps after watching that video i now want a 911!!

Usually people who say an MX5 is a hairdressers car, have never driven one. Those people who HAVE driven one will tell you what a good handling car they are, and that is handling and not just grip, as they are two different things.

I have never driven a Boxster but I would be willing to bet it would run rings round an awful lot of other cars.

If you say so.

I had a good friend who bought a Mk1 MX5 new. He was gay. No I mean he was really gay, and a hair dresser. He took all the abuse we gave him. God Rest His Soul.

Now come on Tom, you have to admit, that the MX5 looks better with a Woman bhind the whell, than a Man.............. Just like a Pink Ford KA looks better with a Woman behind the whell, than a Man.

i do, they are like the poor mans s13-s14 and because every jock has an s13-14 they are becoming more popular; with cheapness you got yourself a win win situation. they handle pretty good too (ish)

we give our friends abuse about being gay for owning one anyway, comes with the car..... just like boxter is a car for a guy who couldn't quite afford a 911 *tongue*

i'll never have either anyway; always wasting away my money!

interesting points being made here and putting the jokes aside, I'd go back to the points about the boxter being a poor mans porker. What is echoing in my head is that our man has got a choice between the boxter and the clearly more expensive 911 so a poor mans choice shouldn't be coming into this.

now, i'm not a lover of porsches, but if i was to consider one it would be a cherished 911. We briefly looked at a couple of early boxters for the wife before we got the TT (now that was another issue!). We've always been battered by the guidance that you should not buy a car without history so i was in with my eyes wide open. It was clear from the couple of cars I looked at that they had been maintained on a budget (mis-matched tyres, non-specialist servicing etc).

I suppose it could be a decision between a newer boxter over an older 911?

I love rear engined stuff coming from an imp heratidge, (learned to drive in imps)

Ive always found the base porches to be rather disapointing, especially the 4wd non turbo ones, in fact I had a skoda 130 that was faster (and more fun) than a colegues 4wd 911 round the twisties.... which is the whole point really.

rear engined stuff needs to be stupidly powerful and grippy at the rear end.
