Rae Davis, in his historic racing A35,claims 135bhp from 1293cc with twin SU,s, 5 port head but free cam. He reckons it runs to 9200rpm and average build cost is £15k.
Then you have to add a gearbox - another £4K.
He can race and beat Jaguars with this.

Exactly tadge, so 140 out of a smaller engine seems mathematically unlikely!

140 out of a hillclimb 5-port was about right when looking back at terminal speeds compared to the 16v motors now.

As far as I know 120 bhp is about all the rest of the field have. (a series class4 anyway)

Don't forget the KAD engine is running without an alternator and fan!

That bring the power down a bit at the top end. Probably down to around 100bhp.
