Bogging down is a symptom of a rich mix. If it is rich enough to missfire the afr guage will report a lean mix.

A lean mix causes hesitation and misfire.

Two totaly different symptoms

Well,
Think im going to have to change to the fuel filter, spark plugs and try another carb on there then back to vmax. fingers crossed hey!

Hi chaps,

I popped the carb and plenum off today to check that the restrictor was in there as i spoke with Wil and said that if its not than this would cause the same symtoms, leaning off on high boost.
It was in there so its not this. However while i had it off i wanted to check the operating psi of the waste gate actuator as i was watching it while i was at vmax and didnt see it move. So i rigged up a foot pump guage. It appeared again not to move. It appeared to be jammed. I freed it up and it is now working but i thought id ask if this would cause the symtoms i was incountering?

you can definately get an engine to super lean with enough boost , but your boost guage would have shown this ,was anyone watching it or datalogging on the rolling road ?

I'm running standard pistons so I can't imagine the boost was excessive. It achieved 130bhp at the flywheel once the mystereous leaning issue went away. What would you guys say the highest boost that should be run on standard pistons?

Standard turbo pistons?

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

if the thing leans off quickly enough ,there is no time to melt , a piece of cellery on a straw would last if theres no combustion .

In that case, we put 25psi+ through a set without any problems.

Really! Should say not running an intercooler at the mo.

compression ration is a factor for max boost too,

but generaly without an intercooler you should be ok up to 8psi ish, more on less than std CR

Did you ever establish what caused the lean off on boost ?

Not yet Tadge,
I've not been back to Stuart yet but plan to soon with the changes done and a spare carb. I'll let you guys no the outcome.
Thanks for all your help so far!

I would take some advice from Turbo Dave and at least after a run and engine shut down that the car is run on the rollers for a short while before the next run to stablize the fuel temperature in the float chamber.

Are you still running the glass type fuel filter? If so try a basic plastic in line one as mine had this issue using the glass filters.

hmm a lean out on boost to the point where it cuts out??
without blowing the engine up??

this sounds like the float bowl is emptying for what ever reason

and i run NGK BPR6ES plugs mine, engine is fine with these up to 22/23psi and more with water/meth

It'll hide an issue and bugger your fuelling, actually making it leaner under steady load, but will make it richer under transient loads.

it actually depends on the needle if its profiled for the spring it should make no difference but you will loose fueling resolution at light loads but in turn gain the resolution at higher loads

Can I ask where you have mounted your injector for you water/meth . Pre or post throttle?
