I've fancied a clubby estate with a vtec turbo 4wd running gear. But that plan is many many many years away. :(

The demise of Avon Park as kill it for me.

I had huge plans to develop my red car further, but now can't justify spending the money.

My 7 port turbo build is now all based around mild road usage for that reason, Im exicted about the results, but its still very much off the shelf build, with expection to Mattys manifold creation. Going forward, I would like a standard Daily driver, and not fall into modifying it again.

Well I have a new part currently still out on test been three years and still going strong. Nothing revolutionary but innovative I think.

Lot's of exciting stuff going on here.

Just don't feel inclined to share.

The lack of a showdown is a big downer for me this year. That and having work/ family getting in the way. I'm still developing my car but it lots of little things rather than big spending. I think People are developing just not posting on the forum. 200 bananas is the norm now so when people can gain some extra I don't think they want to let on.

An interest in classic bikes is making the mini take a back seat, the k1100 engine has been shelved and the parts will be sold.

Unfortunately not everybody has cash sitting about these days to be spending on what is essentially a toy/ expensive hobby.
Development costs money

this is the other side of the coin. given the complexity and innovatively of some developments will keep certain stuff under wraps, and I can fully appreciate why as well.

depends on the context! if you mean taking someone's ideas before they have had a chance to fully develop something and get the appropriate credit for said achievement, then yes.

its all a balancing act

i read it as too many mini's going missing as of late , i dont think people mind other people using their ideas as everyone gets different results from simular mods

The other thing is that the now defunct Mini Showdown was a driver for development. With this gone people have no real target.

This time of year used to be frantic with members trying to get cars together, but no more.

Ding, my car has become nothing more than a garage ornament with no use.
I'm sure it will be released again at some point but nothing quite gets me as excited as the Showdown. I've thought about fitting a cage and trying to make it fit an msa class for something or another, but then it needs so many other changes I would lose what the car was originally intended to be

I agree with Rob, it's a shame really that people now have the need to keep what they are doing a secret.

There have been some quite frankly ridiculous arguments on this forum in the past which have resulted in valued contributors withdrawing from sharing and joining in with discussions.

Over the years I have really enjoyed reading all the k-head development threads and the Siamese injection threads (I still fancy a go at this at some point, may have to do it like dan187 and try to get hold of an mpi setup to figure it out).

Then there is the excitement over someone trying a new turbo and when it works everyone jumps on the band wagon (GT17 then GT20 for instance).
It's interesting that we "mostly" stick to Garrett (I know there are a few exceptions out there making some superb numbers though).

I've stopped thinking about trying to do anything innovative, I pretty much know what I want from my cars now (for now anyway until I change my mind yet again!!!) and thanks to the years of people "innovating" the information is all here to help me make the right component and configuration choices.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

this is a double edged sword really. understand people want to keep there ideas to themselves and i can get that. but then forums become stale and people moan about lack of innovation.

i myself get tired of seeing the same cars. i rarely log on to TM of late as its a bit stale which im sure we are all finding.

sharing is caring :)

Maybe someone should arrange another TM Rolling road weekender. Give us something to look forward too and get the TM spirits flowing.

I'm not falling for that again! At least not at the moment.

You make a valid point though, some proper TM weekenders (track days, drag days, dyno days, sprint days etc) with camping, beer & bbq like they do over on another performance oriented mini forum would probably be a good incentive for people to get their cars running and develop them.

We don't have to restrict it to turbo'd a-series :)

Avon has been mentioned a few times as well. Perhaps we need to look into ensuring this or a similar event is resurrected.

would the formation of classes at MITP work? just wondering what is already readily available?

I don't think it's secrecy but you are absolutely right about the negativity (ridiculous arguements in your words) that makes some of us no longer say what we are doing until it it works.

And to avoid the negativity, some of us now just share information by PM or email with just an occassional mention on the forum.

Sad, but that's the way it is.

Although I'm relatively new to the forum, I was talking to Oli about this he other night. I haven't shared a build thread for a few reasons. My engine isn't gong to really set any hearts racing, and the car itself is nice but not completely different to cars we've seen over the years.
My area that I've spent the time in research and money is the interior, but it doesn't really seem to 'fit' with most of the forum users. For a start its had probably 30kg of sound deadening, with another probably 80kg of audio....... Which is swearing on here *wink*

interesting point though; the forum can be a bit frosty to certain styles and build types - I have seen this a little too frequently in the past couple of years and I'm sure a few people have to sent packing as a result. Don't get me wrong, there is some stuff that should be banned from these pages but Andy is one of our biggest contributors!
