Ooo a 1075 sounds interesting is that with std pistons.

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.
VEMS + 12 PSI + Liquid Intercooler = Small Bore FUN!

theres your answer! above ........... plus a shade of deonation and too much CR maybe and trying too much!*frown*[/quote]

a wasent looking for a answer obvious why it failed pistons arnt ment to be welded it was a bit of fun anyway a did this 2 years ago bit older now and a bit more miserable so a don't bother trying to fix things the cheep way anymore

Or some precision brutality

Calver / Russell do 68mm pistons for smallbore blocks which are bigger again.

The +.100" pistons I'm dry building my new 1100 motor with are bigger than these K1100 ones and give 1186cc.

Metric is for people who can't do fractions.

any idea how thin they were skimmed to, they are normally a pretty solid piston,

Interesting that they go in a 998, cheap piston for a small bore K head build??

Joe, do you have a photo of your tool?

they don't need skimmed at all to run in a 998 its the same piston that was used in the first k head which was a small bore

I meant how tin was the crown of yours in the 1098.

to thin probably less than 3mm a new it was a risk when a skimmed a did remove a lot. if a was going to build the engine agen a would use ford fiesta 1.1hcs pistons as they require little or no machining

I'm still puzzled why you would use non-standard pistons which require modifications to work, when there are off-the-shelf pistons available ?

I'm running +.080" (66.599mm) in my 998, +.100" (67.107mm) in the 1098 I'm building and there are +.120" and 68mm available if you want to go bigger.

I can understand the appeal of making stuff work if there is no alternative, but this just strikes me as introducing failure modes for no reason.

Preston On The Brook

I holed my piston in the proper fashion *happy*

I like the way Wil_h done his piston in too. Now that is how it should be done if it's to be done.... pushing hard to win!!

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

money at the time a wasent earning much and a had all the parts to hand it only cost me the price of the bearings rings and gaskets. and I run these pistons in a 998 thats done over 25000miles with no problems. and what you have said is just like saying why use a bmw k100 head on a mini when you can buy a purpose made head that will do the same job.
