I doubt it's the intercooler. My guess it's the gasket between the plenum and the carb, I think the hole which pressurises the float chamber is blocked by the gasket.

good thinking jimster i had to put a hole in mine as i used a standard one.

also check the fuel pressure setting of the needle could be not seating and when you come on boost it will piss fuel straight into the engine.

check buy removing the dash pot, and then screw the regulator in and see if fuel comes up the main jet if it does then the needle valve isnt seating.

also if it isnt any of the above then try richen the mixture nuy a turn and see what happens.

Yo Alex,

The Chatter (or flutter) is caused when the compressed air from the turbo has no where to go when the throttle butterfly is suddenly snapped shut (i.e. when changing gear). This causes the air pressure to build up with no where to escape, so it is trapped between the butterfly and the compressor wheel where it stalls the turbo, and escapes via the air filter. This will eventually cause the vanes on the compressor and probibly the turbine to die after a while!

The dump valve allows this compressed air an escape, and also alows the turbo to keep spinning so that there is a touch less lag in the next gear. Ace!

Def recomend a BOV though, although its worth uprating to a kevlar guts although even these tear, but not as fast as the rubber ones.

bad guy: What's the easy way?
Hannibal: That WAS the easy way.

arr I get you nutter! I thought you ment the whole process to get a turbo was expensive!!

Good explaination Choppo!

As for turbo damage... the cossy and RST boys run DV-less on t3s right up to 30 psi!!!!!! And they last about 40k like that.

I've now adjusted the fuyel pressure to 3,5psi and it's much better, but it still misfires before full boost is reached. It sort of stutters, before coming clean.
I have yet not adjusted the mixture as the car WAS RR'd before I bought it. I really don't dare to adjust it really.

Could it be that it likes 3psi fuel presure perhaps? I've got another fuel pressure diaphragm. I'll try that first.

i would look at your valve needle first as this sound slike the root to your problem unless you have already replaced it with a new one then look at the float level.

buy the way hows the boost gauge.

the above may not be you problem but i had the same with mine plus a dud coil all together and one masked the other if you get my drift.

I've now refitted the old bost gauge, and it makes much more sense.. Maybe it's the couplings....

After tweaking the dizzy a bit back and fouth, it now goes like crap of a shovel.

I'm not sure if it spins in fourth yet, but I bet it does, at least that's what I told my mates at the pub.

Thanks for all tips.

it should come in at about 2500-3000 rpm for a t3 depending on cc. glad you have got it sorted.

once you are happy with the car try refitting your other boost gauge just to see if it is shagged or just finger trouble. lol.
