If it's a Kangoo/Partner or similar then it will be the same as a car.
If its a Transporter/Transit etc then it is different.

They don't die, they just get faster!

You can do 70 on the motorway Shauna.

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

With regard to insurance companies and speed awareness courses if you do not inform them that you have had one it gives them an excuse to disallow any claim.
Do you really want to risk it ?

I remember the first time I got points for speeding and telling the insurance company at the time. The reply I got was "SP30, everyone has got one of them!" updated my records but no additional premium due; I think I was 22 or 23 at the time.

Can't think it has made a huge impact on my premium over the years having speeding points to be honest

I was 21 and got caught doing 38 in a 30. I didn't get the offer of the course, just 3 points and a fine. It didn't affect my insurance thou.

From gov.uk:-
Goods vehicles (not more than 7.5 tonnes maximum laden weight) 70mph (112kph)

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

Rob and Tom. That is good news, but I still reckon it is good practice to tell them anyway.

An insurance contract is, in law, a contract "uberrimae fideii" which means utmost good faith and requires that both parties reveal all and any information that MAY be relevant.

End of pompous rant.

Tadley, Hampshire.

The criteria for eligibility for the course differs from County to County. It used to be that the course cost more money than the points, but since August last year when they put 3 points fixed penalty up to £100 speed school is cheaper.

A division of the AA run the courses and also manage the data base of who has attended speed school. I do know two people who were offered the course twice in 6 weeks because the data base had not been updated.

Some insurance companies ask you if you have been to Driver Awareness - I had selective memory failure on that question - but earlier in this post someone else said that a discount on your insurance is available.

Good luck Dan.... hope you get the course!

The "small" van with GVW >2000kgs also needs to be a car derived van to be allowed normal car speeds.

That does rule out an awful lot of small vans these days, as not all fall into the car derived category ( will say on the V5 )
Plus many modern small vans have a GVW over 2000kgs.

It is a totally ridiculous law that an empty small van weighing only 1400kgs has restricted limits when some dumb arse in a 3 ton range rover can do whatever speed they want.

But hearing these bullshit stories about people being penalised for doing no harm other than exceeding a speed limit a little boils my blood. The disgusting criminal bastards in those vans and who operate cameras are the real scumbags here. They steal money from the system under the false pretence of road safety, which impacts on funds and resources that could be used to tackle the real dangers on the roads and actually improve road safety.

Both camera operators and the government are dirty lowlife bastards in that respect. They are responsible for so many road deaths and injuries by this squandering of resources in completely the wrong direction. The police arent much help either.

They all excel in punishing people who do no actual harm.

Now see what happens when some dumb fuck crashes into you and you phone them ? "Oh, crash, nothing to do with us, sort it out yourselves" is the typical response.

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will
