Personally, yes. my throw-out bolt is still in place, but wound in about 1/4" from where it needs to be (I'll remove it next time the engine is out). I also don't have a spring between the arm and the slave.

It is most likely that your clutch slave hose is collapsing internally and causing a restriction; I've experienced this a few times over the years.
