I'm going to go for exhaust turbine seal on the turbo.

The plugs are dry so the engine itself can't be consuming much if any oil. There's no oil in the intercooler or pipe work, so it's not coming out the compressor side of the turbo.

What oil pressures are you seeing? Too high and this could also cause the turbo seals to leak.

Replaced the stem seals, inlet chambers are covered in oil.

Does the turbo look alright? It's just sutty other than behind the turbine

Ah. If it's in the inlets, then it could well be the guides.

I'll let others comment on the turbo housing. It looks to have let a bit past the seal to me. Although, When mine was totally shot it was wet with oil rather than soot.

That'll be the problem. If the wheels haven't touched the housings, you should get away with a £30 rebuild kit.

Rebuild time it is! With only a week to get it sorted too as it's L2B next weekend haha who doesn't love a tight deadline!

Right if anyone knows of a rebuild kit that I can get send to me by Saturday or Monday that would be awesome.

Hopefully no damage to the housing.

Lee it was rebuilt around a year ago so god knows why it's shit it.

Right got it all stripped down and cleaned.

I have noticed in the kit it has a small clip and a large clip and also a spare little nipple thing that holds the bearing. At a guess these are for a different turbo? And I haven't missed anything off mine.

I also have a new compressor wheel which I will be fitting as the other has damage.

The kits usually have bits in for various turbos

Rebuild kit problem!

This bush will not fit it's a fair bit bigger than the old one which has a lot of sloppy movement in the hole.

Any ideas?

hmm, often theres 2 of those bushes, in the kit,

personally if the bush looks ok length wise I would open up the hole in the plate, but you''d need to ensure a uniform finish, ie reaming, also the diameter would need to be such that the seal just fits ( unless its a staggered seal)

Is the centre hole the right size? I'd be tempted to whittle the outer bit down a little on a lathe until it's a snug fit.

Only the one bush in this kit Joe unfortunately, length wise it is the same.

I have no access to a lathe mate.

I think my only option is to maybe try take a little off the bush and warm the plate up and hope for the best.

That's the thrust bearing outer collar and compressor shaft seal collar, obviously you haven't fitted the actual seal ring yet.

As Joe says there can be two different sizes, standard and oversized because this is a wear area in the aluminium housing if the main shaft bearing fails.

It sounds like you have only got the oversize one in your kit (where there two different seal rings, the split tiny piston ring thing?) or just the one.

If it is the oversize one, the aluminium housing needs accurately reaming out to the correct size to match.

If you say the original is a sloppy fit then it certainly sounds like you need the oversize one and the housing reaming.

EDIT - and you can't machine the oversize one down unless you have a seal ring the correct size to match, it would be like trying to put +020 piston rings on a STD piston and expecting the rings to fit in standard size bores.
