In the garage at home! I rent this space in a friends unit. Sounds good but its not the ideal situation having to go back and forth and needing two sets of hand tools etc.. I'm on the look out for a workshop to house everything but would rather buy than rent so its a tricky one..

Lathe wise i ended up with a cheap £400 Harrison but its not great, wish i had gone for an M300 or a late Student with a decent array of tooling even if it would cost 3-4 times as much!

That's the very first type of lathe I ever used back when I did my apprenticship; They wouldn't let the "greenhorns" use the M300's or the Colly Triumphs until they'd proven themselves on the old Harrisons. The one thing I do remember is that unlike the other machines, the old harrisons never pissed oil out every crevice in the headstock... On the other hand, perhaps that just meant there was no oil in them...

Well thanks to you lot I went and picked this Lump up!

I found it on gumtree when I was bored at work after looking at this page lol. So I sent the the old boy an email asking some tech questions about the lathe with my number, I got a phone call from the old boy selling it asking what I was thinking off doing with it so on, so on.

Then he said his old man had got it new in back in the old in days, and he got it off him, but now he's to old to play with it, but his son did not want it now a days!!

And he just wants to to go to someone that's going to use it and look after it! After a long chat he said that there was lots of stuff that was still in the old school box! As the add just said that it was just the lathe!

I just need to get two belts now.

This is what I got let's just say I am a happy boy! *happy*

With a lathe, a rotary table a vertical slide and a bit if ingenuity there won,t be too much you cannot do.

Great buy.

BTW, watch out for that triffid creeping through the window

now that is a good bit of kit Simon.

I was speaking to Nick, who we share the shed with. New weapon in the arsenal is now apparently a 3D printer. He plans to do alloy sand casting as part of his development stuff and is going to make up his plugs with it. The stuff is all there for us to use.........

Looks a lot like an ml7 i just got . I just spend a few weekend hours with a full dissassembly and removing 64 years of crud and grime and adjusting to get rid of lots of play . I now found out why the chuck is rather well attached to the spindle . someone ran the cross slide into the chuck at one point .. I fear my first lathe project ever will be turning off a backplate .. how hard can it be :)

That sir, is not rust, it is the progressive mass reduction system

I have just ordered the belts for it, and I have some jobs I have lined up to remake, and I want to have a go at screw cutting.

That is a cool little lathe!

Lathes.co.uk has a little bit about them; personally I'd never heard of a granville lathe!
I do like the gapped bed on it; quite unusual for a small one.

Just make sure you have plenty of oil going to the journal bearings in the headstock, and be cautious of how much side-load you put on the spindle with that milling fixture.
