discovery 3/4's great to drive but the diesel models eat EGRS, suspension bushed, brakes tyres etc just v big and heavy at the end of the day.
Cambelts must be done on time at 105,000 or 7 years which ever comes first and that's BOTH cambelts one front and one rear as has been mentioned engines are not bad, its the electrics that aren't ageing well.

Ok so not that bad reviews really... I guess, as minimole says, you tend to hear about the ones that have problems...

I was going to ask Rob, which engine did you mean? But evolution seems to have answered that one for me... I'm interested in the D4, 3.0L jobbie, thats what i'm driving in the afternoon tomo.

Get an egr blanking kit then you don't have to worry about egr problems.

to blank a 2.7 7A chassis onward or 3.0 you have to get the computer fiddled with as the ecu checks the pressure values and if it doesnt add up puts it in to limp mode automatically.

For what it is worth, my neighbour had 2 d4s before buying a defender and didn't have issues with them. Never got older than 3 years though and not hard used or high milers

Discos. To be fair, he has only had the defender 12 months and he got that new as well.

ive got a 300 tdi defender as my daily driver.

i love it. ease of maintenance no ecu's and i can get decent mpg if i control my right foot.

its quite quick if i cant !

and its in the old (big) tax bracket. sub 240 a year as aposed to the 400+ for the newer stuff another reason to go oldskool

Ok chaps its like this...

Test drove a disco 4 and to be honest not blown away by it at all, as soon as I opened the door and sat in it felt a bit basic... kinda expected something else (dunno what?). So off we went for the drive, drove quite well I thought, managed to bury the slipper on one of the faster roads and in fairness was quite responsive but I could really feel the weight of the car... we drove to our local tesco's and my wife (still weird calling her that sounds weird 5 weeks in lol) took the realms and drove it back.. sitting in the back I had a look around and again not overly impressed by the decor, fairly standard in fairness, not very comfy, seats were hard and felt quite bumpy. Overall just ok, for a car that costs around 30k I'd rather spunk it on an aston or something... Missus didn't have many positives about it too, I think its fair to say I doubt I'd be getting one anytime soon...

So we were in the showroom after and herself said why don't you try a range rover sport.... so I did.
Now she's a different machine, we both really liked it, did the same drive in it and both had a go again.. interior was lovely, quite luxurious, front seats were like armchairs as were the back. All mod cons and more than my current bmw and that pretty much has most. It had heated rear seats, reversing camera, touchscreen entertainment/sat nav and all that...
A nicer drive, pulled nicely in top gear and around 30 to the gallon, possibly 35?
It was the 3.0L version, I must say... quite impressed. Dangerous!!

Are the rr sports not based on the disco? Nice car but for the cash, i'd be tempted with the full fat rr

So they say Rob, personally the experience was totally different for me. I really liked it.. I had a look at the full size rr's... They were lumps, too big for me really...
