OK so a member has a some pistons but they have the number 20831 stamped on them .

Now mine have 20142
( sorry for the bad pic )

Are there variations in pistons then? Does anyone know the difference ? Are the pistons I have actually turbo pistons?

Thanks

The pistons you have are the early type with the extended skirt. I'm not sure on the numbers, and there doesnt seem to be that many of them about. The later pistons will not be compatable with these if you are thinking of mixing and matching, that will just ruin the balance of the whole engine.

I've seen these extended skirt three ring pistons before in an early MG Metro engine. Not sure if those pistons were the same as these. The main difference if any would be in the dish volume and crown height.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Thanks for clearing that up for me .

I may have a set of 20831's in the pipeline if they are in good condition .

If not then my only option is to go down the cast omega route and get the block bored to suit .

ring problems are down to wear or abuse but although annoying it isn't a show stopper
