Many racer-guys say that the Minispares kit is better than JKD.... And cheaper....

And, aren't they still on the edge of bancrupcy?

from what i've heard and read the Tran-X kits are stronger and more easily available than the JK kits...

tran x wont supply directly (they dont make all the diffs for a start).

Why not contact a tran-x supplier and see what they can do?

For e.g. Minits sell the tran-x gearkit for £380+VAT, or £446 if you include the VAT. That is their standard price, so may be open to some discount on a number of sets.

In addition, over the xmas period they usually knock 5% off all marked prices before VAT, making the same kit £424 all told.........

I thought the tran-x gearkit did not have molybdenum the syncros' so make the baulk rings wear very quickly. Tran-x say to use bronze baulk rings, which I belive are NLA

OK - the original Trannex as owned/run by the brilliant David Hirons is no more. The company closed down some years ago. Another gear manufacturing company bought the name and rights to most of the products. Mini Spares - having invested heavily both financially and 'hands on' retained the rights for all the A-series Mini/Midget/Srpite stuff. Because of the usual legalities involved in company split ups, MSC now sells all the stuff originally designed by Dave Hirons, Manufactured by the same comapny that helped with Trannex production, to the same quality under the 'Evolution' banner. Therefore anybody that has purchased real 'Trannex' products can buy any spares they need from Mini Spares.
As for syncro kits in racing - I have campainged one of the Evolution 'Clubman' gear kits this year with absolutely nop problems whatsoever. I have used the modified competition MSC balk rings andthese have been faultless. And for the cynics out there - I use fully synthetic oil too. And I just love the ratios in that kit (same as the old 3-syncro straight cut kits). I am going to be re-trying teh Swiftune dog-box for the remainder of the season with the close ratio stuff as per JKD (gone for 2.31 1st gear). Be interesting to see how it stacks up in the ratio stakes. I just think the old 3-sync s/c ratios are just about spot on for the A-series engine performance envelope. KC.

Well i use the minispares kits and there are cheap for what you get i think. Much cheaper then the JK, and if your wearing things out fast any way then maybe it's not worth paying for the JK ones, just get the MS ones

"Many racer-guys say that the Minispares kit is better than JKD.... And cheaper....
" interesting point Vegard.

there are a few brocken JK gears in the workshop, both Syncrho and dog, so they do break

I seem to remember hearing that older JK boxes are strong, but the ones from the past couple of years are a bit on the weak side.
